| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate their colleague,
State | 4 | | Rep. Brian W. Stewart, on the occasion of his retirement as | 5 | | State Representative of the 89th District, after a
| 6 | | distinguished career of public service in the Illinois House, | 7 | | which will now continue in the Illinois State
Senate; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Rep. Stewart is a fifth generation native of | 9 | | northwest Illinois; in his youth, he
spent most of his | 10 | | formative years living in public housing; his humble upbringing | 11 | | served as the primary
motivation for him to make something of | 12 | | himself; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, After attending Freeport High School, Rep. | 14 | | Stewart joined the U.S. Army in 1975, where he served
as a | 15 | | military policeman and investigator until his honorable | 16 | | discharge in 1978; and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Upon completion of his service, Rep. Stewart | 18 | | returned to Freeport to serve as a Stephenson
County Sheriff's | 19 | | Deputy; he served in several capacities and eventually attained | 20 | | the rank of sergeant; he
joined a major case squad, serving the | 21 | | nine northwestern most counties in Illinois; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Rep. Stewart began his first small business at his | 2 | | kitchen table in 1987; with a knack for business,
he eventually | 3 | | retired from law enforcement and today successfully manages | 4 | | Stewart & Associates,
Inc., which employs over 500 people and | 5 | | manages over 20 businesses, the majority of which are
centered | 6 | | in his hometown of Freeport; and | 7 | | WHEREAS, Rep. Stewart served as a alderman for the City of | 8 | | Freeport and as a trustee for Freeport Township;
he has also | 9 | | served as chairman and board member of the Northwest Illinois | 10 | | Criminal Justice
Commission, the Freeport Area Chamber of | 11 | | Commerce, and the Northwest Illinois Development Alliance; and | 12 | | WHEREAS, Rep. Stewart was sworn into office as State | 13 | | Representative of the 89th District in October
of 2013 to | 14 | | replace outgoing Rep. Jim Sacia; as State Representative, he | 15 | | has focused on
regulatory, agricultural, and law enforcement | 16 | | issues to try to create good paying agricultural,
| 17 | | manufacturing, and middle-class jobs; and | 18 | | WHEREAS, Rep. Stewart served honorably as Minority | 19 | | Spokesperson of the House-Judiciary Criminal
Law Committee and | 20 | | Restorative Justice Committee and served as well on the | 21 | | Agriculture &
Conservation, Public Safety Appropriations, | 22 | | Executive, Labor and Commerce, Revenue & Finance, and
Veteran's | 23 | | Affairs Committees; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Rep. Stewart's service to his community went | 2 | | beyond elected office; he was the former
chairman of the United | 3 | | Way of Northwest Illinois and a member of the Freeport Rotary | 4 | | Club, AMVETS Post 32,
the Stephenson County Farm Bureau, the | 5 | | Stephenson County Emergency Telephone System (911), and the FHN
| 6 | | Foundation; he was the charter president of Stephenson County | 7 | | Employees-UAW Local 2261; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Rep. Stewart has shown great knowledge, | 9 | | effectiveness, and collegiality
throughout his career in the | 10 | | Illinois House of Representatives; therefore, be it
| 11 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 12 | | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | 13 | | honor and congratulate State Rep. Brian W. Stewart for his work
| 14 | | in the Illinois House of Representatives and wish him all the | 15 | | best in his service in the Illinois State
Senate; and be it | 16 | | further
| 17 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 18 | | presented to Rep. Stewart as a symbol of our respect and | 19 | | esteem.
