| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of
Ruth | 4 | | Geyer Lerner, who passed away on October 16, 2012; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Ruth Lerner was born on December 8, 1923, in | 6 | | Vejprty, in what is now the Czech Republic; as a child, she and | 7 | | her family were forced into hiding after the rise of the Nazis | 8 | | in Europe during World War II; after the war, she immigrated to | 9 | | the United States, attended medical school, and met her future | 10 | | husband and love of her life, Herbert Lerner; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Ruth Lerner and her husband, both pediatricians, | 12 | | had their offices in Hyde Park for over 50 years, where they | 13 | | gained sterling reputations as skilled and generous doctors who | 14 | | provided free care for low-income patients; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Ruth Lerner was committed to the civil rights and | 16 | | peace movements; she marched with Dr. Martin Luther King in | 17 | | Cicero, Selma, and Washington, D.C.; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Ruth Lerner was an accomplished artist and | 19 | | musician, playing guitar and singing at peace rallies; her | 20 | | guitar playing inspired her son to become a professional | 21 | | musician; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Ruth Lerner loved nature, arts and crafts, making | 2 | | homemade furniture and ornaments, and participating in | 3 | | numerous sports, including shot put, tennis, swimming, and | 4 | | racquetball; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Ruth Lerner is survived by her loving husband, | 6 | | Herbert; her sons, Claude and Peter; her daughter, Heidi; her | 7 | | grandchildren, Camille, Luke, Jasmine, and Matthew; her twin | 8 | | sister, Inge; and her many other family members and friends; | 9 | | therefore, be it
| 10 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 11 | | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 12 | | we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of | 13 | | Ruth Geyer Lerner; and be it further
| 14 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 15 | | presented to the family of Ruth Lerner as an expression of our | 16 | | sympathy and gratitude.
