| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of the Reverend Dr. Willard C. Blomquist, | 4 | | who passed away on December 5, 2017; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Pastor Blomquist was born in Michigan to Arvid and | 6 | | Signe Blomquist on October 28, 1924; beginning at the age of | 7 | | 12, he spent his summers working in the woods with his father; | 8 | | he graduated from Augustana College and from Augustana | 9 | | Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity; he married | 10 | | Virginia Olson in Cambridge in 1949; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Pastor Blomquist was ordained into the ministry at | 12 | | the Washington National Cathedral in 1950; in 1980, he earned | 13 | | his Doctor of Ministry at Trinity International University in | 14 | | Deerfield; he served congregations in Bemidji, Minnesota and | 15 | | Davenport, Iowa before joining Trinity United Lutheran Church | 16 | | in Waukegan to begin a ministry that lasted 30 years; after his | 17 | | retirement, he was named pastor emeritus; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Pastor Blomquist served on the board of directors | 19 | | at Augustana College; he was active in the former Waukegan Area | 20 | | Council of Churches, serving as its president; he served as | 21 | | vice-pastor at St. Mark's Lutheran Church and as its visitation | 22 | | pastor for more than 20 years; he continued his ministry at |

| 1 | | Rolling Hills Manor in Zion, where he resided for the last four | 2 | | years; and
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Pastor Blomquist was preceded in death by his wife | 4 | | of 63 years, Virginia; three infant children; his parents; his | 5 | | sister, Lorraine Morgan; and his brother, Donald Blomquist; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Pastor Blomquist is survived by his daughters, | 7 | | Anne Malecki and Kathryn (James) MacNeil; his grandchildren, | 8 | | Matthew (Julia) Santullano, Sophie Malecki, Eryn MacNeil, and | 9 | | John MacNeil; and his great-grandchildren, Leia, Alexander, | 10 | | and Adela Santullano; therefore, be it
| 11 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | 12 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 13 | | the Reverend Dr. Willard C. Blomquist, and extend our sincere | 14 | | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved | 15 | | him; and be it further
