| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Leonard Beetstra, who passed away on | 4 | | September 29, 2015; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Leonard Beetstra was born in Harvard on November | 6 | | 8, 1925 to Jacob and Griet Beetstra; he attended White Oaks | 7 | | School and Harvard High School; he served in the United States | 8 | | Navy during World War II as a Seaman First Class aboard the USS | 9 | | Prichett, a Fletcher-class destroyer, and saw action in the | 10 | | Pacific Theater; later in life, he helped organize Pritchett | 11 | | reunions and enjoyed many years of attending annual ship's | 12 | | reunions around the country with his fellow sailors; he married | 13 | | Marion Koch in Harvard on June 18, 1949; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Leonard Beetstra was a licensed and bonded cattle | 15 | | dealer and was a well-known figure in farming circles | 16 | | throughout the area; and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Leonard Beetstra was a lifetime member of the | 18 | | Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, the Loyal Order | 19 | | of Moose, and the Tin Can Sailors; he was also a 66-year member | 20 | | of the First Presbyterian Church of Harvard; and
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Leonard Beetstra was preceded in death by his |

| 1 | | parents; his brothers, Bill and Jacob; and by his nephew, | 2 | | David; and
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Leonard Beetstra is survived by his wife of 66 | 4 | | years, Marion; his five children, John (Amy) Beetstra, Melinda | 5 | | (Gary) Vose, Thomas (Angela) Beetstra, Robert (Julie) | 6 | | Beetstra, and Karen (Jim) Kruckenberg; his 15 grandchildren; | 7 | | his 18 great-grandchildren; his brother, Raymond; and his | 8 | | sister, Grace McCullough; therefore, be it
| 9 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | 10 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 11 | | Leonard Beetstra, and extend our sincere condolences to his | 12 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 13 | | further
