| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Bruce "Skip" Snyder of Peoria, who passed | 4 | | away on December 6, 2010; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Bruce "Skip" Snyder was the executive vice | 6 | | president of First of America National Bank, served as founding | 7 | | executive director of the Riverfront Development Corporation, | 8 | | chaired the Heart of Illinois United Way and its fund drives on | 9 | | two occasions, and stepped in briefly to head the Lakeview | 10 | | Museum; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, He was born July 12, 1938, in Peoria to Frank and | 12 | | Grace Snyder; he graduated from Peoria High School in 1956, | 13 | | serving as student council vice president; he graduated from | 14 | | Dartmouth College in 1960 and earned his MBA from Dartmouth's | 15 | | Tuck School of Business in 1961; on September 9, 1961, he | 16 | | married Sarah "Sally" Page; and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, After finishing college, he served as a lieutenant | 18 | | in the United States Army, then worked for Proctor & Gamble | 19 | | before taking a position in Peoria at Commercial National Bank; | 20 | | in 1972, he was named vice president in charge of the estate | 21 | | and trust division; he became senior vice president in 1975 and | 22 | | executive vice president in 1984 and was elected to the board |

| 1 | | of directors in 1985; he continued as executive vice president | 2 | | after First of America bought the bank and served in that | 3 | | position until 1995, when he retired; and | 4 | | WHEREAS, Within 10 days of retirement, he was a consult to | 5 | | Peoria's fledgling riverfront development efforts; he became | 6 | | executive director of the Riverfront Development Corporation | 7 | | as it raised funds to turn a patch of weeds and parking lots | 8 | | into an attraction that would help residents enjoy the area's | 9 | | singular natural resource; and | 10 | | WHEREAS, His community involvement began in 1966 as a | 11 | | founding member of Y-GUYS, which recruited young businessmen to | 12 | | counsel, mentor, and provide scholarships for boys to become Y | 13 | | members; he also served as vice president and a board member of | 14 | | Planned Parenthood of Peoria, on the board of directors of | 15 | | Prospect National Bank, on Peoria's Fair Housing Commission, on | 16 | | St. Francis Hospital's community advisory board for more than | 17 | | 30 years, and as president of the Downtown Rotary Club of | 18 | | Peoria; and
| 19 | | WHEREAS, In the late 1970s he was on a statewide task force | 20 | | that studied Illinois public employee pensions; he was a member | 21 | | of First Baptist Church of Peoria, serving in numerous | 22 | | capacities, including the board of trustees; among his | 23 | | community activities, he was particularly passionate about the |

| 1 | | Lakeview Museum and the Heart of Illinois United Way; he was a | 2 | | Lakeview Museum trustee in the 1970s, served as the Lakeview | 3 | | Museum's interim director in 1998, and championed the Peoria | 4 | | Riverfront Museum; and | 5 | | WHEREAS, He served as United Way president in 1984 and | 6 | | chaired its annual campaign in 1986 and 1996; in 1990 he headed | 7 | | a study that examined human service needs in the Peoria area; | 8 | | he was recognized statewide and nationally by United Way for | 9 | | his leadership and generosity; he enjoyed tennis and golf and | 10 | | was a member of the Country Club of Peoria, where he served as | 11 | | president and on the governing board; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Bruce Snyder is survived by his wife; his | 13 | | daughters, Sarah (Russ) Morris, Susan (Bill) Traver, Sandy | 14 | | (Jeff) Dickison, and Debbie (Steve) Lawrence; his | 15 | | mother-in-law, Sarah "Sally" Page; and his grandchildren, | 16 | | Jenni, Will, and Nicholas Traver, Page and Courtney Dickison, | 17 | | and Kelly and Eric Lawrence; therefore, be it
| 18 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL | 19 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | 20 | | his family and friends, the passing of Bruce Snyder; and be it | 21 | | further
