SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Mary Haley, who passed away on March
47, 2024 at the age of 75; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mary Haley was born the second of six children to
6Mary and Frank Haley on September 29, 1948; she lived in Oak
7Park her entire life, where she attended Ascension Catholic
8Elementary School and Siena High School; she graduated from
9St. Teresa's College; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Mary Haley started her teaching career in the
11Catholic school system in Chicago; she began teaching at
12Butler School in Oak Brook in 1984, retiring in 2008; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Mary Haley was honored as a Distinguished Teacher
14during the United States Presidential Scholars National
15Recognition Week in Washington, D.C. after being nominated by
16one of her students in 1996; and
 
17    WHEREAS, After retirement, Mary Haley became more involved
18with her community; she was an active member in the Oak Park
19River Forest League of Women Voters, cared for babies in the
20NICU at Rush Medical Center, and was an active gardener and
21reader at the Maze Branch Library of Oak Park; and

1    WHEREAS, Mary Haley and her brother John also served as
2co-guardians for their sister Jeanne Haley, the youngest of
3the six Haley children; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Mary Haley took a deep interest in documenting
5the Haley family history; she was a big fan of Bruce
6Springsteen, even traveling to see his concerts; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Mary Haley will be remembered as an incredible
8woman and a mentor who challenged her students to grow
9academically, pushing them intellectually and thoughtfully;
10she had many dear friends, including all her neighbors on her
11Highland Avenue block and her family; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Mary Haley was preceded in death by her parents
13and her older brother, Bill Haley; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Mary Haley is survived by her siblings, Sister
15Jeanne Haley, John Haley, Dan Haley, and Jeanne Haley; her
16sisters-in-law, Peggy Haley, Julia Haley, and Mary Colleen
17Haley; and her nieces and nephews, Katie (Jeff) Philippe, Tom
18Haley (Cathy), Claire Haley, Rose Haley, Ben Haley, and Mariah
19Haley; therefore, be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL

1ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
2Mary Haley and extend our sincere condolences to her family,
3friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further
 
4    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5presented to the family of Mary Haley as an expression of our
6deepest sympathy.
