| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Theresa | 4 | | "Teesee" Fambro Hooks, who passed away on January 31, 2016 at | 5 | | the age of 80; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Theresa Hooks was born and raised in Chicago; she | 7 | | graduated from Parker (now Robeson) High School in 1953; she | 8 | | subsequently attended the University of Illinois, Roosevelt | 9 | | University, and the Art Institute of Chicago's fashion design | 10 | | department; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Theresa Hooks began working at the Chicago | 12 | | Defender in 1961, where she had many roles, such as the women's | 13 | | editor, society columnist, and food and fashion expert; she | 14 | | wrote an advice column as "Arletta Claire" and a column called | 15 | | "Social Whirl", which later became "Teesee's Town"; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, "Teesee's Town" became one of the most popular | 17 | | features in the Defender; she used social events and her column | 18 | | as a platform to highlight individuals, groups, or | 19 | | organizations; a mention in "Teesee's Town" was highly sought | 20 | | after in the African-American social scene; and | 21 | | WHEREAS, Before joining the Defender, Theresa Hooks worked |

| 1 | | in public relations in several area businesses; she formed her | 2 | | own agency, Teesee Fambro Hooks and Associates; she was a | 3 | | talented seamstress, sewing elaborate pieces and developing | 4 | | relationships with local boutique owners; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Theresa Hooks was the recipient of the Chicago | 6 | | Defender's annual Women of Excellence Award; and | 7 | | WHEREAS, Theresa Hooks was a devoted member of the Trinity | 8 | | United Church of Christ and president of the National | 9 | | Association of Media Women; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Theresa Hooks is survived by her ex-husband, | 11 | | William Billy Hooks, III, and her stepdaughters, Jan Hooks and | 12 | | Dianne Gonzalez; therefore, be it
| 13 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 14 | | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 15 | | we, along with her family and friends, mourn the passing of | 16 | | Theresa "Teesee" Fambro Hooks; and be it further
| 17 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 18 | | presented to the family of Theresa Hooks as an expression of | 19 | | our sympathy.
