| 1 | | SENATE RESOLUTION | 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | 3 | | to learn of the death of Willie E. Johnson of Olympia Fields, | 4 | | who passed away on March 21, 2024; and | 5 | | WHEREAS, Willie Johnson was born on December 10, 1939; he | 6 | | graduated from Pearl Senior High School in Nashville, | 7 | | Tennessee, where he lettered in football; he received a | 8 | | bachelor's degree from Fisk University in Nashville, where he | 9 | | continued to play football and was initiated into the Alpha | 10 | | Delta Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. in 1962; he | 11 | | earned master's degrees from Northeastern Illinois University | 12 | | and Concordia University in Illinois; and | 13 | | WHEREAS, Willie Johnson, while offered a professional | 14 | | contract with the Canadian Football League, instead pursued a | 15 | | career in education; he was a dedicated teacher for Chicago | 16 | | Public Schools for over 30 years, which included working at | 17 | | James R. Doolittle Elementary School; and | 18 | | WHEREAS, Willie Johnson was a lifelong member of Kappa | 19 | | Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., and he served as a graduate | 20 | | advisor to the Epsilon Omega Chapter at Northern Illinois | 21 | | University in DeKalb and as the 7th Polemarch of the Chicago | 22 | | Heights Alumni Chapter; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Willie Johnson was committed and dedicated to | 2 | | making an impact in his community; he will be remembered for | 3 | | leading with both his words and his actions; and | 4 | | WHEREAS, Willie Johnson is survived by his wife, two | 5 | | children, his brother, two sisters, and a host of relatives; | 6 | | therefore, be it | 7 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | 8 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 9 | | Willie E. Johnson and extend our sincere condolences to his | 10 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 11 | | further | 12 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 13 | | presented to the family of Willie Johnson as an expression of | 14 | | our deepest sympathy. |
