| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 |
| Representatives wish to congratulate Dr. Nathaniel James | 4 |
| Anderson on the occasion of his retirement as Superintendent of | 5 |
| School District 189 in East St. Louis; and
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Anderson received a bachelor's degree in | 7 |
| Science in Recreation and a master's degree in Science in | 8 |
| Education from Eastern Illinois University; he then received a | 9 |
| Specialist in education degree from Southeast Missouri State | 10 |
| University and his Doctorate in Education Administration from | 11 |
| Illinois State University; and
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, He began his work in school administration as a | 13 |
| Dean of Students at Stephen Decatur High School in 1982; he | 14 |
| then served as principal at Cairo High School, Dwight D. | 15 |
| Eisenhower High School in Decatur, and as High School Principal | 16 |
| and Assistant Superintendent of Rock Island/Milan District 41, | 17 |
| before becoming Superintendent of School District 189 in 1998; | 18 |
| and
| 19 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Anderson has been active in many educational | 20 |
| and community activities during his career; currently he serves | 21 |
| on the Gateway Classic Advisory Board, the United Way St. Louis | 22 |
| Metropolitan Area Board of Directors, the United Negro College | 23 |
| Fund Advisory Board, the Katherine Dunham Centers for Arts and | 24 |
| Humanities Advisory Board, the SIUE East St. Louis Center | 25 |
| Community Advisory Council, and he serves as the NAACP Chairman | 26 |
| of Freedom Fund Banquet (East St. Louis Chapter); and
| 27 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Anderson has received many awards for his | 28 |
| dedication to excellence in education including the "Great | 29 |
| Teacher" Citation, the Anna Waters Education Award, the Rock | 30 |
| Island Rotary Excellence in Education Award, The Black Star | 31 |
| Project Excellence in Education Award, and the Lifetime |

| Achievement Award from the National Alliance Black School | 2 |
| Educators in Chicago; and
| 3 |
| WHEREAS, His professional affiliations include the | 4 |
| Illinois Association of School Administrators, the National | 5 |
| Association of Secondary School Principals, the Illinois | 6 |
| Principals Association, the Association for Supervision and | 7 |
| Curriculum Development, Phi Delta Kappa, the Illinois High | 8 |
| School Association, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, the NAACP, the | 9 |
| John C. Ellis Masonic Lodge #17, the Eastern Illinois Athletic | 10 |
| Boosters Club, the National Association of Black School | 11 |
| Educators (NABSE), the Missouri Superintendents Forum, the | 12 |
| American Association of School Administrators, and the Large | 13 |
| Unit District Association (LUDA) of Illinois; additionally, he | 14 |
| is founder of the Base Runners Athletic Team and member of Mt. | 15 |
| Zion M.B. Church of East St. Louis; and | 16 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Anderson is married to his wife, Tanya, and | 17 |
| has two daughters and four grandsons; therefore, be it
| 18 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 19 |
| NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | 20 |
| congratulate Dr. Nathaniel James Anderson on his retirement as | 21 |
| Superintendent of School District 189 after an outstanding | 22 |
| career in education, and we
thank him for his dedication and | 23 |
| service to the citizens of
Illinois; and be it further
| 24 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 25 |
| presented to Dr. Nathaniel James Anderson as an expression of | 26 |
| our respect
and esteem and with our sincere wishes for many | 27 |
| happy years
of retirement.
