| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate LeeArthur "Lee" Crawford | 4 | | on his retirement as Doorkeeper of the House and to thank him | 5 | | for his dedicated service to the "People's House"; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Lee Crawford started his full-time career in the | 7 | | House on April 1, 1986, overseeing and supervising pages on | 8 | | the House floor; he distributed a paper copy of every bill and | 9 | | amendment considered by the House of Representatives, | 10 | | maintained the official spindle with each bill and amendment, | 11 | | certified to the House Clerk that official copies were on the | 12 | | floor prior to the commencement of debate on a legislative | 13 | | item, and maintained order and organization of the reams of | 14 | | paper compiled on tables in the rear of the chamber; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Lee Crawford was elected Doorkeeper of the House | 16 | | on January 8, 1997 when the House Democratic Caucus regained | 17 | | the majority in the 90th General Assembly and was re-elected | 18 | | to that position during the subsequent 12 General Assemblies | 19 | | before announcing his retirement on May 31, 2022; and | 20 | | WHEREAS, Lee Crawford was in charge of enforcing the House | 21 | | rules and decorum as doorkeeper and of calming situations on | 22 | | the floor when, at times, they would become heated; he worked |

| 1 | | with the Secretary of State Police and the Illinois State | 2 | | Police to ensure that the House, its members, its staff, and | 3 | | all guests were safe during legislative sessions; he also | 4 | | provided for the official entrance of governors and other | 5 | | distinguished individuals, including President Barack Obama on | 6 | | February 10, 2016, by calling out, "Mr. Speaker!" as they | 7 | | sought admittance to the House Chamber; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Lee Crawford served Speakers Michael J. Madigan, | 9 | | Lee A. Daniels, and Emanuel "Chris" Welch and Clerks John F. | 10 | | O'Brien, Anthony D. Rossi, Terrance B. McLennand, Mark E. | 11 | | Mahoney, Timothy D. Mapes, and John W. Hollman; he also served | 12 | | with Assistant Clerks Anthony J. Leone Jr. and Bradley S. | 13 | | Bolin; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, in addition, Lee Crawford served as a pastor at | 15 | | the Cathedral of Praise Christian Center and the Victory | 16 | | Temple Church in Springfield and often provided the opening | 17 | | prayer when the House was in session; he also counseled guest | 18 | | clergy, including the Reverend Jesse Jackson Sr., on the | 19 | | protocols and traditions of the Illinois House and welcomed | 20 | | other esteemed guests, such as William Warfield and Secretary | 21 | | of Defense William Cohen; he provided a listening ear to any | 22 | | member of the House or staffer who sought his counsel, and his | 23 | | community service included collecting business clothes to help | 24 | | financially disadvantaged people dress appropriately for job |

| 2 | | WHEREAS, Lee Crawford has been married for 32 years to | 3 | | Karen Crawford and, from that union, is the father of three | 4 | | children, Dr. Sean (Denysha) Crawford, Christopher Crawford, | 5 | | and Charday Crawford, and the grandfather of Emery, Sean, and | 6 | | Kynnedi Crawford; therefore, be it
| 7 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 8 | | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 9 | | we congratulate and thank LeeArthur "Lee" Crawford for his 36 | 10 | | years of dedicated, professional, and selfless service to the | 11 | | House, its members, its staff, and the public; and be it | 12 | | further
| 13 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 14 | | presented to Lee Crawford and his family as an expression of | 15 | | our appreciation, esteem, gratitude, and respect and with our | 16 | | best wishes for his future success in the next chapter of his | 17 | | life.
