| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 |
| Representatives are pleased to congratulate Janice Guzon of | 4 |
| Hoffman Estates for winning the 2010 Prudential Spirit of | 5 |
| Community Award; and
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, Janice Guzon is a 16-year old senior at St. Viator | 7 |
| High School; and
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, Janice Guzon won the 2010 Prudential Spirit of | 9 |
| Community Award for her efforts with a charitable organization | 10 |
| that she founded out of her high school, EYEsee, which is | 11 |
| devoted to helping improve access to eyeglasses in | 12 |
| less-developed countries by collecting eyeglasses in North | 13 |
| America and delivering them to places where they are needed, | 14 |
| such as Latin America and Asia; and
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, With the help of such partners as EyeCare WeCare | 16 |
| Foundation, Inc., Physicians for Peace, and Canvasback | 17 |
| Missions, Inc., EYEsee has helped 7,000 people receive | 18 |
| eyeglasses in Haiti, Honduras, the Philippines, Venezuela, | 19 |
| Congo, and several Pacific Island nations; the organization has | 20 |
| also set an ambitious goal to collect 14,000 pairs of | 21 |
| eyeglasses and deliver them overseas in 2010; and

| WHEREAS, Janice Guzon was inspired to found EYEsee after | 2 |
| she was diagnosed with Type I diabetes at a young age; after | 3 |
| learning that blurred vision and other eyesight problems are | 4 |
| common side effects of diabetes, she was inspired to help | 5 |
| improve access to quality eye care to residents of countries | 6 |
| that did not have proper access to eye care and where a pair of | 7 |
| glasses would be prohibitively expensive to most people; and | 8 |
| WHEREAS, In addition to her efforts with EYEsee, Janice | 9 |
| Guzon is also active in other activities in her community; she | 10 |
| was the recipient of a regional award from the Coca-Cola | 11 |
| Scholars Program and is under consideration for a national | 12 |
| award as well; she serves as a Youth Board Advisor for the | 13 |
| Alliance for a Healthier Generation, a joint venture between | 14 |
| the Clinton Foundation and the American Heart Association that | 15 |
| focuses on solving the epidemic of childhood obesity in the | 16 |
| United States; she also serves as the editor-in-chief for the | 17 |
| St. Viator High School newspaper, the Viator Voice; and
| 18 |
| WHEREAS, Janice Guzon serves as a model of hard work, | 19 |
| integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of | 20 |
| Illinois; therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 22 |
| NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | 23 |
| congratulate Janice Guzon for winning the 2010 Prudential |

| Spirit of Community Award and wish her continued success and | 2 |
| happiness in the future; and be it further

| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 4 |
