| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Tyrone Leon Thompson of St. Louis, | 4 | | Missouri, who passed away on June 5, 2010; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Tyrone Leon Thompson was born July 14, 1962 in St. | 6 | | Louis to the union of Jack and Betty Thompson; he confessed a | 7 | | hope in Christ at the Wayman A.M.E. Temple under the leadership | 8 | | of the Reverend Samuel Pointer; he and his family later joined | 9 | | Northern Missionary Baptist Church; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, He was educated in the University City School | 11 | | District and was a proud graduate of University City High | 12 | | School Class of 1982; Tyrone began his college education at | 13 | | Lincoln University and later transferred to Webster | 14 | | University;
Tyrone entered the police academy and served as a | 15 | | police officer for the City of University City, where he | 16 | | advanced to the role of detective before being appointed Chief | 17 | | of Police for the City of Pagedale, where he served with | 18 | | enthusiasm; and | 19 | | WHEREAS, After several years in law enforcement, Tyrone | 20 | | began his tenure with Kwame Building Group; he worked in many | 21 | | capacities as a vital part of Kwame Building Group and helped | 22 | | to ensure the effective operation of the company;

| 1 | | of his passing, he worked at Kwame Building Group, attended | 2 | | school, raised three children, and worked as a fraud | 3 | | investigator for the Missouri Attorney General's Office; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, He spent many years as a mentor to high school | 5 | | students and enjoyed his weekly mentoring trips to Carnahan | 6 | | High School; he was the President of the Dr. Martin Luther | 7 | | King, Jr. St. Louis, Missouri Support Group, which focused on | 8 | | the teaching of non-violence; Tyrone organized many trips to | 9 | | Atlanta, Georgia for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday | 10 | | celebration; and | 11 | | WHEREAS, His love of music was evident, whether he was | 12 | | playing his two favorite songs on the bass, "Fantastic Voyage" | 13 | | and "Boogie Oogie Oogie"; performing karaoke with his sister, | 14 | | Sonja; or building his music library on his computer; he looked | 15 | | forward to time spent with his UCHS Class of 1982 classmates | 16 | | and his Black Cinema Sunday family; and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Tyrone Thompson will be remembered by his | 18 | | children, Tyrell, Kayla, and Tyler Thompson and their mother, | 19 | | Victoria; his parents, Jack and former Missouri State | 20 | | Representative Betty Thompson; his two grandparents, Mozella | 21 | | Cavitt and Mandy Louatrice White; his two brothers, Anthony | 22 | | (Kim) and Kwame; his sister, Sonja Branscomb; his three nieces, | 23 | | Kristin Thompson and Imani and Ayanna Branscomb; his nephew, |

| 3 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL | 4 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | 5 | | his family and friends, the passing of Tyrone Thompson; and be | 6 | | it further
| 7 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 8 | | presented to the family of Tyrone Leon Thompson as a symbol of | 9 | | our sincere sympathy.
