| 1 | | SENATE RESOLUTION | 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | 3 | | to learn of the death of Alice Iona (Conkey) Reiser, who passed | 4 | | away on February 28, 2024; and | 5 | | WHEREAS, Alice Reiser was born to Roy and Nellie | 6 | | (Marcussen) Conkey in Petersburg on November 15, 1927; she | 7 | | attended Coddington Grade School, Circleville Country Grade | 8 | | School, and Tallula High School, where she won awards in home | 9 | | economics and dramatic speaking; she graduated from Ashland | 10 | | High School in 1945; she received the Daughters of the | 11 | | American Revolution (DAR) Citizenship Medal; she married John | 12 | | Reiser Jr. at the St. Augustine Catholic Church in Ashland on | 13 | | December 29, 1945; and | 14 | | WHEREAS, Along with her husband, Alice Reiser farmed corn | 15 | | and soybeans and raised cattle and hogs; she worked at the | 16 | | veterinary clinic in Ashland for 12 years and at the Ashland | 17 | | Sentinel; she was appointed as village clerk of Ashland; she | 18 | | became the first woman to be elected to the Ashland Village | 19 | | Board, serving one term before being hired as village clerk | 20 | | full-time; she retired in 1993; in retirement, she wrote a | 21 | | children's book, poetry, and fiction; and | 22 | | WHEREAS, Alice Reiser was a member of St. Augustine |

| 1 | | Church, the Altar Society, the Ashland Junior Women's Club, | 2 | | and the Lady Land Owners; she served on the John Cheetham | 3 | | Library Board for 12 years, as secretary of the ACHS Alumni | 4 | | Board, and as a correspondent for the Ashland's Bicentennial | 5 | | Committee from 1975 to 1976; and | 6 | | WHEREAS, Alice Reiser was an accomplished seamstress; she | 7 | | loved butterflies and enjoyed collecting shoes, hats, and | 8 | | books, listening to Country Western Music, especially Tom T. | 9 | | Hall, attending ladies roundtables at the Inns of Hollybrook, | 10 | | and watching old Western movies, Jeopardy, and the St. Louis | 11 | | Cardinals; and | 12 | | WHEREAS, Alice Reiser will be remembered for her | 13 | | generosity, friendliness, and laughter; and | 14 | | WHEREAS, Alice Reiser was preceded in death by her | 15 | | husband; her parents; her sisters, Ruth (Harold) Clasing, | 16 | | Marjorie (Bob Thompson and Bud) Dannenberger, Mary (Joy) | 17 | | Adams, and Patricia (Frank) Cline; her brothers, Ray (Norma | 18 | | Jean) Conkey, John (Marilyn) Conkey, and Bob (Diane) Conkey; | 19 | | her son, John "Jack" (LouAnn) Reiser; her grandson, Mark | 20 | | (Natalie) Reiser; her great-granddaughter, Meritt McDaniel; | 21 | | and several nieces and nephews; and | 22 | | WHEREAS, Alice Reiser is survived by her children, Jill |
