| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | 3 | | to learn of the death of Robert "Bob" Goalby of Belleville, who | 4 | | passed away on January 20, 2022; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Bob Goalby was born in Belleville on March 14, | 6 | | 1929; he was the son of George Goalby and Helen (Towers) | 7 | | Goalby; he began caddying in 1936 and won a caddy championship | 8 | | at the age of 13; he graduated from Belleville Township High | 9 | | School in 1947; he attended the University of Illinois and | 10 | | Southern Illinois University Carbondale; he served in the U.S. | 11 | | Army from 1950 to 1952; he was an outstanding all-around | 12 | | athlete, playing football and baseball in high school, | 13 | | attending the University of Illinois on a football | 14 | | scholarship, pitching and playing outfield for the Salukis | 15 | | baseball team after his transfer to SIU, and playing on a | 16 | | division football team while serving in the Army; and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Bob Goalby became a professional golfer after his | 18 | | military service; he was named PGA Tour Rookie of the Year in | 19 | | 1958; during his career, he won 11 PGA Tour events with the | 20 | | most prestigious being the 1968 Masters; he remains the only | 21 | | man born in the St. Louis area to capture one of golf's major | 22 | | championships; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Bob Goalby served as an analyst and television | 2 | | commentator for NBC Sports; he also designed many golf | 3 | | courses; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Bob Goalby was one of the founding forces of the | 5 | | Senior PGA Tour, serving on the committee that designed the | 6 | | concept and sitting on the tournament's board for 16 years; | 7 | | and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Bob Goalby dedicated his life to the growth of | 9 | | sports throughout the country, especially in the Belleville | 10 | | area; he was a role model to many; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Bob Goalby was preceded in death by his parents; | 12 | | and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Bob Goalby is survived by his wife, Arlene | 14 | | Goalby; his sons, Kye (Paige) Goalby, Kelly (Julia) Goalby, | 15 | | and Kevin Goalby; his grandchildren, Katherine, Claudia, | 16 | | Frances, and Robert II; his stepchildren, Kathy (Keith) Lance, | 17 | | Steve (Terri) Abeln, and Ann (Dennis) Nadler; his sister, | 18 | | Shirley Haas; his niece, Cindy (Joe) May; and his nephews, Jay | 19 | | (Jan) Haas and Jerry (Elizabeth) Haas; therefore, be it
