| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | 3 | | to learn of the death of David A. Scheina of Pleasant Plains, | 4 | | who passed away on October 9, 2021; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, David Scheina was born in Springfield to Carl | 6 | | Otto and Wanda Mae (Dempsey) Scheina on December 28, 1949; he | 7 | | attended Bunn Elementary School and graduated from Lanphier | 8 | | High School in 1968; he earned an associate degree from | 9 | | Lincoln Land Community College and a bachelor's degree from | 10 | | the University of Illinois Springfield; he married Juanita | 11 | | "Gail" Rogers in Springfield on March 15, 2012; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, David Scheina was passionate about flying and | 13 | | earned his pilot's license before he was 18 years old, making | 14 | | him the youngest pilot at the time in Illinois; he served his | 15 | | country for 26 years as a Chief Warrant Officer/Pilot in the | 16 | | U.S. Army and Illinois Army National Guard; his passion was | 17 | | flying helicopters; during his military service, he was a | 18 | | military instructor pilot (IP), and he was qualified in the | 19 | | OH-58 Kiowa, UH-1 Huey, AH-1G Cobra, and the CH-47D Chinook | 20 | | helicopter, the largest helicopter in the Army; in Vietnam, he | 21 | | served as a Cobra aircraft commander with the 334th AWC (known | 22 | | as the Playboys), where his call sign was "Playboy 18"; with | 23 | | Chief Warrant Officers commonly known as "Chief" and those |

| 1 | | with a rank of CW4 commonly called "Super Chief", he was | 2 | | respectfully known in the National Guard as "THE Super Chief"; | 3 | | and | 4 | | WHEREAS, David Scheina retired after many years of service | 5 | | working for the State of Illinois in various agencies and | 6 | | after owning several small businesses throughout his career; | 7 | | and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, David Scheina enjoyed playing cards, especially | 9 | | Texas Hold 'Em, watching Fighting Illini basketball games, | 10 | | traveling, RVing, water sports, seeking deals, and starting | 11 | | projects; he was deeply loved by his grandchildren; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, David Scheina was preceded in death by his | 13 | | parents and his son, Joshua Allen Scheina; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, David Scheina is survived by his wife, Gail | 15 | | Scheina; his son, D. Patrick (Angela) Scheina; his | 16 | | daughter-in-law, Valerie Marie Scheina; his stepchildren, | 17 | | Brandon (Callie) Rogers and Nikki (Chris) Carron; his | 18 | | grandchildren, Kate Elizabeth, Cassidy Skylar, Isabella Marie | 19 | | and Bryleigh Rose Scheina, Dillan (Mackenzie), Mizabella, Mira | 20 | | Moon, Ryan, Braydon (Holly) Carron, and Samara, Jasmine, and | 21 | | Autumn Rogers; his sister, Kathleen (James) Augustine; his | 22 | | nephews, James (Shannan) and Ryan Augustine; his great-niece, |

| 3 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | 4 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 5 | | David A. Scheina and extend our sincere condolences to his | 6 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 7 | | further
