| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | 3 | | to learn of the death of Donald E. "Don" Johnston of Moline, | 4 | | who passed away on August 7, 2021; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Don Johnston was born in Moline to Eugene "Sqeak" | 6 | | and Irene Swanson Johnston on April 29, 1948; he graduated | 7 | | from Moline High School in 1966 and served in the U.S. Marine | 8 | | Corps during the Vietnam War; he married Debbie Johnston, and | 9 | | they had two sons and later divorced; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Don Johnston worked as a business agent for the | 11 | | International Union of Operating Engineers Local 150 District | 12 | | 8, Rock Island; he also owned and operated JV Consulting; and | 13 | | WHEREAS, Don Johnston was elected Moline Township | 14 | | Supervisor in 2005; he was appointed to the county board in | 15 | | 2010 and elected that November, representing District 11; he | 16 | | was active in the Democratic Party and served as the 17th | 17 | | Congressional Democratic State Central Committeeman; he also | 18 | | served as the labor liaison for U.S. Senator Paul Simon; and
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Don Johnston was a busy man and always worked | 20 | | extremely hard on the current project or problem; he enjoyed | 21 | | boating so much he bought a boat and became captain of his |

| 1 | | ship, Cabin Fever, which gave him much needed time with family | 2 | | and friends doing what he loved; and
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Don Johnston was preceded in death by his parents | 4 | | and his son, Donny Johnston; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Don Johnston is survived by his son, Jasen | 6 | | Johnston; two grandchildren; his sister, Jane Johnston; and | 7 | | his life-long friend, Pat Veronda; therefore, be it
| 8 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | 9 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 10 | | Donald E. "Don" Johnston and extend our sincere condolences to | 11 | | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 12 | | further
| 13 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 14 | | presented to the family of Don Johnston as an expression of our | 15 | | deepest sympathy.
