| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Ervin August Thien, who passed away on | 4 | | July 5, 2013; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Ervin Thien was born on May 23, 1926, in | 6 | | Germantown; he was the son of Joseph B. and Mary C. Thien; he | 7 | | married the former Lestine Mae French on May 1, 1950, at Camp | 8 | | Bliss, Texas; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Ervin Thien served his country as a member of the | 10 | | United States Army during World War II and the Korean War; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Ervin Thien served as a fireman for the City of | 12 | | Wood River from 1952 to 1975, having served as Fire Chief from | 13 | | 1962 to 1975; he subsequently continued his service with the | 14 | | City of Wood River as a general inspector before working as a | 15 | | custodian for the Wood River-Hartford School District; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Ervin Thien was a lifetime member of the Wood | 17 | | River VFW, the American Legion, and the Madison County | 18 | | Fireman's Association; and | 19 | | WHEREAS, Ervin Thien was preceded in death by his parents; | 20 | | his brothers, Herman, Aloysius, Edward, Victor, Joseph, |

| 1 | | Vincent, and Raymond Thien; his great-granddaughter, Francesca | 2 | | Maria McCoy; and his in-laws, Lester and Audrey French; and
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Ervin Thien is survived by his wife, Lestine; his | 4 | | sons, Ervin J. (Julia) Thien, Leslie Wayne (Becky) Thien, | 5 | | Douglas (Rosella) Thien, and Eric L. (Debbie) Thien; his 11 | 6 | | grandchildren; his 14 great-grandchildren; and his many nieces | 7 | | and nephews; therefore, be it
| 8 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | 9 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | 10 | | his family and friends, the passing of Ervin August Thien; and | 11 | | be it further
