| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | 3 | | to learn of the death of Dale Michael Geiss, MD, who passed | 4 | | away on June 11, 2021; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Geiss was born in Mandan, North Dakota to | 6 | | Lawrence and Clara Geiss on April 6, 1944; he was an excellent | 7 | | student and was chosen to enter the Catholic seminary at the | 8 | | age of 14; he finished high school and two years of college at | 9 | | St. John's Seminary; he earned a degree from North Dakota | 10 | | State University and did his graduate work in neuropsychology; | 11 | | he received his medical degree from Baylor University in | 12 | | Texas; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Geiss completed surgical residencies in | 14 | | California, Wisconsin, and Toronto; he became proficient in | 15 | | both adult and pediatric cardiac surgery; he settled in Peoria | 16 | | and established a reputation for superior skills and immense | 17 | | compassion; he founded the Children's Heart Institute in l980 | 18 | | and accomplished many "firsts", such as pediatric mitral valve | 19 | | repair and the Norwood procedure; and
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Geiss spent most of his surgical career at | 21 | | OSF St. Francis in Peoria; later, he helped revive struggling | 22 | | programs in the Quad Cities and Champaign-Urbana; he completed |

| 1 | | 12,000 surgeries over his lifetime; and | 2 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Geiss could make it fun to be in the operating | 3 | | room; he enjoyed flying his twin engine Aerostar; he loved | 4 | | watching sports, especially football, and caring for stray | 5 | | cats; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Geiss's family includes Pam, Kristin, and | 7 | | Pam's daughter, Amy; Kristin is married to Michael Curran and | 8 | | has four grown children and three grandkids; Amy and her | 9 | | husband, Bill, have twin teenage boys; therefore, be it
| 10 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | 11 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 12 | | Dale Michael Geiss, MD and extend our sincere condolences to | 13 | | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 14 | | further
| 15 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 16 | | presented to the family of Dr. Geiss as an expression of our | 17 | | deepest sympathy.
