| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Cecil Gilson Jr. of Havana, who passed | 4 | | away on April 30, 2019; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Cecil Gilson was born in Canton to Cecil Sr. and | 6 | | Leah Showens Gibson on October 5, 1928; he graduated from | 7 | | Canton High School and Brown Business College; he married | 8 | | Elnora Bohm in Havana on June 3, 1951; he served in the | 9 | | military during the Korean War and in the National Guard for 25 | 10 | | years, retiring as Major; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Cecil Gilson retired from International Harvester | 12 | | after 36 years and the Secretary of State Driver's License | 13 | | Facility after 8 years; and | 14 | | WHEREAS, Cecil Gilson was active in the Havana community, | 15 | | serving as an alderman and helping to establish the TIF | 16 | | district; he and Elnora spent 17 years volunteering for the | 17 | | American Red Cross, organizing local blood drives; he donated | 18 | | over 25 gallons of blood and platelets in his lifetime; in | 19 | | 2002, he was honored for his civic involvement by receiving the | 20 | | 2002 Havana Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year award; and
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Cecil Gilson was active in the Havana Church of |

| 1 | | Christ, serving as Sunday School Superintendent, Deacon, | 2 | | Elder, Trustee, Chairman of the Board, and Chairman of the | 3 | | Building and Grounds Committee; his greatest pleasure came from | 4 | | time spent with family; he spent countless hours helping to | 5 | | build or remodel homes, watching his sons and grandchildren | 6 | | compete in various sporting events, and chauffeuring | 7 | | grandchildren to school and appointments; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Cecil Gilson was preceded in death by his parents; | 9 | | his sisters, Vera Mae Savill and Barbara Bell; and his brother, | 10 | | Tom Gilson; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Cecil Gilson is survived by his wife, Elnora; his | 12 | | sons, Marshall (Karen) Gilson, Kevin (Sherry) Gilson, and Craig | 13 | | (Jenni) Gilson; his grandchildren, Andy (Melissa) Gilson, Kirk | 14 | | (Aneesha) Gilson, Tony (Steph) Gilson, Josh (Jackie) Gilson, | 15 | | Jay Gilson, Jess (Tyler) Sayers, and Ashleigh (Kyle) Gilson; | 16 | | and his great-children, Ryan and Jack Gilson, Alexis Sayers, | 17 | | Eleigh and Kyleigh Gustafson, Brooklyn Gilson, and Evan Miller; | 18 | | therefore, be it
