| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | 3 | | to learn of the death of James Joseph "Jim" Coryn of Moline, | 4 | | who passed away on June 3, 2021; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Jim Coryn was born in Rock Island to J. Ralph and | 6 | | Ann (Rink) Coryn on March 20, 1932; he attended Sacred Heart | 7 | | School and St. Ambrose Academy, where he participated in | 8 | | several sports and earned the prestigious Bechtel Award for | 9 | | scholastic and athletic excellence; he attended Notre Dame | 10 | | University, where he received, with honors, his Bachelor of | 11 | | Science in Finance; he received his law degree (cum laude) in | 12 | | 1956 and passed the Illinois bar; he loved Notre Dame and | 13 | | became an active Badin Guild member; and | 14 | | WHEREAS, Jim Coryn entered the U.S. Army in 1956; he | 15 | | served two years in Korea, and while there, he worked under the | 16 | | Judge Advocate and taught business law for the University of | 17 | | Maryland; he was separated from service in 1958 and | 18 | | transferred to the inactive reserves, receiving an honorable | 19 | | discharge in 1962; he married Carol Herrity in May of 1959, and | 20 | | she preceded in death in January of 1996; and | 21 | | WHEREAS, Jim Coryn joined the Rock Island law firm of | 22 | | Sinnett, Rink and Coryn; he remained a partner with the |

| 1 | | succeeding firms, culminating with the firm of Coryn and | 2 | | Walker; he was a member of both the Illinois and Iowa Bar | 3 | | Associations for over 50 years; he served as president of the | 4 | | Rock Island County Bar Association and taught business law at | 5 | | Moline Community College; he tried jury cases for the State of | 6 | | Illinois Acquisition of Properties for right of way; he also | 7 | | represented property owners in eminent domain proceedings in | 8 | | Rock Island, Whiteside, and Mercer counties; and | 9 | | WHEREAS, Jim Coryn served on the board of directors of | 10 | | Metrobank in East Moline; he held memberships in the Rock | 11 | | Island County Trial Lawyers Association, where he also served | 12 | | as president, the American Jurisprudence Society, the Notre | 13 | | Dame Law Alumni Association, where he also served as a | 14 | | director, and the Quad City Notre Dame Club; and | 15 | | WHEREAS, Jim Coryn married Gloria (Stoudt) Foley in South | 16 | | Bend, Indiana in May of 1999; they enjoyed traveling, | 17 | | including several trips to Europe; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Jim Coryn was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart | 19 | | Church in Moline; he loved to play golf and was a member of the | 20 | | Short Hills Country Club for over 30 years; he later joined the | 21 | | Rock Island Arsenal Golf Club; and
| 22 | | WHEREAS, Jim Coryn was preceded in death by his wife, |

| 1 | | Carol; his sons, John and Paul; his parents; and his brothers, | 2 | | John "Jack" and Robert Coryn; and
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Jim Coryn is survived by his wife, Gloria; his | 4 | | daughters, Joan Vargas and Lucy (Bill) Bice; his | 5 | | grandchildren, Amanda, Adam, and Zachery Coryn and Matthew and | 6 | | Allison Bice; his great-grandchildren, Kurt, Isaac, Alexis, | 7 | | Zander, and Hudson; his stepchildren, Debra (Jeff) Schuett, | 8 | | Lynn Foley Reeh, Michael Foley, and John Foley; his | 9 | | step-grandchildren, Lisa Turner, Jordan Reeh, Kelly Beck, | 10 | | Katie Payne, Eric Foley, and Amy Sadler; his | 11 | | step-great-grandchildren, Rhiannon, Brendan, Natalie, Trevor, | 12 | | Aidan, Cameron, Charlotte, and Claire; his sister, Mary (John) | 13 | | McGee; and several nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
| 14 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | 15 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 16 | | James Joseph "Jim" Coryn and extend our sincere condolences to | 17 | | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 18 | | further
| 19 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 20 | | presented to the family of Jim Coryn as an expression of our | 21 | | deepest sympathy.
