| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois | 3 |
| learned with regret of the death of West Nash, Jr., on | 4 |
| Thursday, July 7, 2005; and
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, He was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on November | 6 |
| 12, 1949, to Dorothy Bessie Campbell Nash and West Nash, Sr.; | 7 |
| he spent his childhood in East St. Louis, where he was involved | 8 |
| in activities such as the Boys Club of America and the Boy | 9 |
| Scouts, achieving the Life Merit Status; and
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Nash attended School District No. 189, | 11 |
| graduating from Lincoln Senior High School, where he was one of | 12 |
| its outstanding students; it was there that he developed a | 13 |
| serious interest in math and science; he won awards at the St. | 14 |
| Louis Science Fair for three consecutive years and graduated in | 15 |
| the top 10% of his class; he went on to attend Southern | 16 |
| Illinois University in Carbondale, where he pursued a major in | 17 |
| chemistry; he later returned home and attended Southern | 18 |
| Illinois University in Edwardsville and State Community | 19 |
| College of East St. Louis; he received an Associate in Math and | 20 |
| Science from State Community College and a Bachelor of Science | 21 |
| in Mass Communications Radio & Television Broadcasting from | 22 |
| SIU-E; and
| 23 |
| WHEREAS, He had worked for Metropolitan Community College | 24 |
| as an Audio Visual Technician and Media Specialist; he was a | 25 |
| professional photographer and worked part time as a broadcast | 26 |
| engineer; at the time of his demise, he worked for Harris-Stowe | 27 |
| State College in St. Louis as a Computer Information | 28 |
| Technologist and Network Specialist; he was a member of the | 29 |
| East St. Louis Alumnae Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity; | 30 |
| he pledged in the fall of 1996; and
| 31 |
| WHEREAS, In 1972, Mr. Nash married Eva Devine; to this |

| union two children were born, Dante and Ayvonjanai; in 1982, he | 2 |
| married Faye Allen Wells, who is the mother of his | 3 |
| stepdaughter, Charity Wells; they were married for 16 years; | 4 |
| and
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of West Nash, Jr., has been deeply | 6 |
| felt by many, especially his children, Mr. Dante Tylon Nash, | 7 |
| Miss Ayvonjanai Marie Althea Nash, and Charity Nicole Wells; | 8 |
| his grandson, Christian Wells; his sisters, Mrs. Marinda | 9 |
| (Charles) Nash Ferrell, Miss Sylvia Nash, Mrs. Cynthia | 10 |
| (Richard) Nash Jones, and Mrs. Jeanette (David) Nash Curtis; | 11 |
| his loving aunts, uncles, and cousins; and his most special and | 12 |
| cherished friends, Miss Rose Hargrove, Mr. Willie Walker, and | 13 |
| David and Marquita Brown; he was preceded in death by his | 14 |
| parents, Dorothy B. Campbell Nash (Upchurch), West Nash, Sr., | 15 |
| Moses Campbell, Sr., Dorothy Olivia Campbell, and his sister, | 16 |
| Helen Nash; therefore, be it
| 17 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL | 18 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 19 |
| West Nash, Jr., and we extend our sincere condolences to his | 20 |
| family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 21 |
| further
| 22 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 23 |
| presented to his family as an expression of our deepest | 24 |
| sympathy.
