| 1 | | SENATE RESOLUTION
| 2 | | WHEREAS, On May 31, 2019, the 101st General Assembly | 3 | | passed the Reproductive Health Act, which established laws and | 4 | | policies that protect individual decision-making in the area | 5 | | of reproductive health, supports access to the full scope of | 6 | | quality reproductive health care for all in our State, and | 7 | | permits regulation of reproductive health care, including | 8 | | contraception, abortion, and maternity care, only to the | 9 | | extent that such regulation is narrowly tailored to protect a | 10 | | compelling State interest; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Each individual has a fundamental right to make | 12 | | autonomous decisions about one's own reproductive health, | 13 | | including the fundamental right to use or refuse reproductive | 14 | | health care, contraception, or sterilization and to make | 15 | | autonomous decisions about how to exercise that right and the | 16 | | fundamental right of an individual who becomes pregnant to | 17 | | continue the pregnancy and give birth to a child or to have an | 18 | | abortion and to make autonomous decisions about how to | 19 | | exercise that right; and
| 20 | | WHEREAS, The Reproductive Health Act repealed the Illinois | 21 | | Abortion Law of 1975, the Partial-birth Abortion Ban Act, and | 22 | | the Abortion Performance Refusal Act; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, The Governor approved of the Reproductive Health | 2 | | Act, and it became law on June 12, 2019; and | 3 | | WHEREAS, On May 17, 2021, the United States Supreme Court | 4 | | granted the petition for writ of certiorari to Dobbs v. | 5 | | Jackson Women's Health Organization on Question 1 that is | 6 | | whether all pre-viability prohibitions on elective abortions | 7 | | are unconstitutional; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, In the wake of this news, fundamental | 9 | | reproductive health rights and the United States | 10 | | constitutional right to abortion established by Roe v. Wade | 11 | | and Planned Parenthood v. Casey are in jeopardy; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, In 2021, several states are banning fundamental | 13 | | reproductive health rights across the nation; therefore, be it
| 14 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | 15 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare our | 16 | | commitment to uphold the law and values embodied within the | 17 | | Reproductive Health Act; and be it further
| 18 | | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | 19 | | delivered to the Governor, all Illinois constitutional | 20 | | officers, and all members of the Illinois General Assembly in | 21 | | order to bring further awareness to the importance of |
