| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | 3 | | to learn of the death of Shirley Eleanor Christell of Forest | 4 | | Park, who passed away on September 13, 2022 at the age of 99; | 5 | | and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Shirley Christell loved spending time with family | 7 | | and friends, whether in small gatherings or those that | 8 | | overflowed into their beautiful yard in Forest Park; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Shirley Christell enjoyed birding, gardening, | 10 | | sewing, knitting, crocheting, basket-weaving, baking, and | 11 | | cooking; she was known to be able to throw a party in 15 | 12 | | minutes when any guest stopped for a visit; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Shirley Christell and her husband of 69 years, | 14 | | Jack Christell, enjoyed traveling, including camping, taking | 15 | | ship and riverboat cruises, attending elderhostels, and | 16 | | visiting family and friends throughout the United States; and | 17 | | WHEREAS, Shirley Christell cherished her connection to | 18 | | church, which expanded to volunteer work with Good Shepherd | 19 | | Lutheran Church in leading the daytimers group as well as | 20 | | starting a knitting group that created prayer shawls; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Shirley Christell and her husband also worked at | 2 | | the Lutheran Center Evangelical Lutheran Church in America | 3 | | (ECLA) Headquarters in Chicago, and her love of reading and | 4 | | research led her to volunteer at the Forest Park Public | 5 | | Library, where she served as president of the Friends of the | 6 | | Library Board; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Shirley Christell was an accomplished singer; she | 8 | | sang in Good Shepherd Lutheran Church's Choir as well as the | 9 | | local singing group, the Trebelaires; she also found | 10 | | expression through music by playing piano, organ, and | 11 | | accordion; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, At the time of her passing, Shirley Christell was | 13 | | survived by Lance (Carol), Roy (Terry), and Valerie (Suzanne); | 14 | | four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren; therefore, | 15 | | be it
| 16 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | 17 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 18 | | Shirley Christell and extend our sincere condolences to her | 19 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | 20 | | further
| 21 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 22 | | presented to the family of Shirley Christell as an expression |
