| 2 | | WHEREAS, Lt. Gov. Corinne Wood served as the first female | 3 | | Lt. Governor of Illinois from 1999 to 2003; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Lt. Gov. Wood was known as a staunch advocate for | 5 | | women and children; her experience also included service as a | 6 | | state representative, attorney, and community activist, as | 7 | | well as wife and mother; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Lt. Gov. Wood served as a member of the Illinois | 9 | | House of Representatives from 1997 to 1999, and during her | 10 | | first year as a member of the Illinois Legislature, she passed | 11 | | more bills that were signed into law than any other freshman | 12 | | state representative; and | 13 | | WHEREAS, During her bid for Lt. Governor, Lt. Gov. Wood | 14 | | made campaign visits to all 102 counties in Illinois, | 15 | | discussing the ambitious agenda of the Ryan/Wood team, and on | 16 | | November 3rd, 1998, she was elected Lieutenant Governor of | 17 | | Illinois; and | 18 | | WHEREAS, During her time as Lt. Governor, Lt. Gov. Wood | 19 | | championed women's health and was dedicated to improving | 20 | | health care for women; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Lt. Gov. Wood launched the highly regarded Check | 2 | | for a Cure campaign to increase contributions to the State's | 3 | | breast cancer research fund; her initiative was extremely | 4 | | effective and, in the first year, doubled the revenue donated | 5 | | to this fund; and | 6 | | WHEREAS, Lt. Gov. Wood served as the Chair of Women's | 7 | | Health Illinois, an inter-agency program that focuses on | 8 | | enhancing women's health education and services; she also | 9 | | served as Honorary Chair of the Governor's Commission on the | 10 | | Status of Women; and | 11 | | WHEREAS, Lt. Gov. Wood worked to triple funding for the | 12 | | State's Office of Women's Health, expanding health education | 13 | | and outreach efforts and making a program for low-cost breast | 14 | | and cervical exams available to more women throughout | 15 | | Illinois; and | 16 | | WHEREAS, Lt. Gov. Wood created and hosted a Midwest | 17 | | Emmy-nominated cable television show, Today's Healthy Woman, | 18 | | to provide important health information to Illinois women and | 19 | | their families; and | 20 | | WHEREAS, Lt. Gov. Wood served as the Chair of the | 21 | | Governor's Rural Affairs Council and the Illinois Rural Bond | 22 | | Bank, as well as the Chair of the Illinois Main Street Council; |

| 2 | | WHEREAS, Lt. Gov. Wood courageously battled with breast | 3 | | cancer throughout her life, including during her time as Lt. | 4 | | Governor; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Lt. Gov. Wood's dedication to public service, | 6 | | despite battling breast cancer, showed how strong she was and | 7 | | how dedicated she was to improving Illinois; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Above all, Lt. Gov. Wood was a wife to Paul and a | 9 | | mother to three children, Ashley, Brandon, and Courtney; she | 10 | | will be missed by her family, friends, and colleagues; | 11 | | therefore, be it
| 12 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | 13 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare May 28, 2021 | 14 | | as "Lt. Governor Corinne Wood Day" in the State of Illinois to | 15 | | commemorate her years of public service and to celebrate the | 16 | | life that she led; and be it further
| 17 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to | 18 | | Lt. Gov. Wood's family as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
