| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois | 3 |
| learned with regret of the death of Raymond Earl Zimmerman of | 4 |
| Princeton, summer resident of Walloon Lake, Michigan, on | 5 |
| Tuesday, June 28, 2005; and
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, He was born on May 20, 1930, in Peoria to Clarence | 7 |
| and Lydia (Staker) Zimmerman; he grew up in Morton and was a | 8 |
| graduate of Morton Township High School in 1948; he married | 9 |
| Marjorie Carius on December 23, 1951, in the First Presbyterian | 10 |
| Church in Peoria; and
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Zimmerman received a bachelor's degree from | 12 |
| Bradley University in 1953 and then served in the U.S. Air | 13 |
| Force from 1953 to 1955; he continued his college education and | 14 |
| earned a master's degree from Bradley in 1959; and
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, He began his career in education following his | 16 |
| discharge from the military and worked as a teacher and coach | 17 |
| for a number of schools throughout the years, including | 18 |
| Washington Junior High School and Eureka High School, where he | 19 |
| was head basketball coach for nine years as well as the coach | 20 |
| for the very first cross country team; he later served as | 21 |
| principal of Wyanet Junior High School in Wyanet, and | 22 |
| Jefferson, Lincoln, and Douglas elementary schools in | 23 |
| Princeton; and
| 24 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Zimmerman built and operated the Princeton | 25 |
| Dairy Queen from 1966 until his retirement in 2001; he also | 26 |
| owned and operated "Z's" Christmas Trees for 23 years; he was | 27 |
| honored in the mid-1990s by being inducted into the Peoria Hall | 28 |
| of Fame as a member and pitcher of the Gipps All Star Softball | 29 |
| Team that won the national championship in 1947; he attended | 30 |
| Princeton Church of the Nazarene and the Walloon Lake Community | 31 |
| Church in Walloon Lake, Michigan; and

| WHEREAS, The passing of Raymond Earl Zimmerman has been | 2 |
| deeply felt by many, especially his wife, Marjorie; his | 3 |
| children, Barbara (Dan) Mogck, Susan (Robert) Blaha, David Ray | 4 |
| Zimmerman, and Beth (Dan) Schmidt; his sister, Wilma Bollegar; | 5 |
| his brother, Ken Zimmerman; his grandchildren, Matthew, Susan, | 6 |
| Joshua, Alison, Jacob, and Isaac Raymond Mogck, Bo, Rachael, | 7 |
| Claire, Kathryn, Lydia, Zac, and Ben Blaha, and Emily and Anna | 8 |
| Schmidt; his seven aunts; his uncle; his seven nieces; and his | 9 |
| six nephews; he was preceded in death by his parents and his | 10 |
| brother, Billie; therefore, be it
| 11 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL | 12 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 13 |
| Raymond Earl Zimmerman, and we extend our sincere condolences | 14 |
| to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be | 15 |
| it further
| 16 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 17 |
| presented to his family as an expression of our deepest | 18 |
| sympathy.
