| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | 3 | | to learn of the death of Robert Lee Smarjesse of Springfield, | 4 | | who passed away on April 10, 2023; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Robert Smarjesse was born in Springfield to John | 6 | | and Catherine Rose Smarjesse on November 15, 1935; he was | 7 | | drafted twice in to the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1962; he married | 8 | | Myrtle Gough in Malibu, California on October 21, 1961; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Robert Smarjesse served as superintendent of the | 10 | | Sangamon County Veterans Assistance Commission, retiring in | 11 | | 1999; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Robert Smarjesse was a member of American Legion | 13 | | Post 32 and Disabled American Veterans; he was an avid golfer | 14 | | and Chicago Cubs fan; he was a previous boxer, an excellent | 15 | | bowler, and a shuffleboard and pool player; as a young man, he | 16 | | even beat the legendary Minnesota Fats; he was a loving and | 17 | | caring person to everyone he met; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Robert Smarjesse was preceded in death by his | 19 | | wife, Myrtle; his parents; and his brother, Louis; and
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Robert Smarjesse is survived by his children, |

| 5 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | 6 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 7 | | Robert Lee Smarjesse and extend our sincere condolences to his | 8 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 9 | | further
| 10 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 11 | | presented to the family of Robert Smarjesse as an expression | 12 | | of our deepest sympathy.
