1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of
3 Illinois were saddened to learn of the death of Miguel
4 Juarez, the Chief of Police of Waukegan, on March 4, 2003;
5 and
6 WHEREAS, Mr. Juarez was born in July 27, 1952 in Ciudad
7 Juarez in the Mexican state of Chihuahua; and
8 WHEREAS, After honorably serving his country as a
9 sergeant of the U. S. Marine Corps, he joined the Waukegan
10 Police Department in 1979; he quickly rose through the ranks
11 and was the first Hispanic person to reach every key rank in
12 the department, starting when he made sergeant in 1985 and
13 continuing on to his appointment as police chief in May 2001;
14 and
15 WHEREAS, Mr. Juarez was a member of the Holy Family
16 Parish, the Waukegan Public School District #60, and at least
17 22 different community and police organizations; and
18 WHEREAS, Mr. Juarez's passing will be deeply felt by
19 many, especially his wife, Rosa Juarez; his children,
20 Michael, Jessica, Cassandra, and Michael A.; his mother,
21 Martina Barreras; his brothers and sisters, Chilo, Bobby and
22 Alex Barreras, Martha Aredondo, and Molly Prado; and many
23 nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
24 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL
25 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the death of
26 Miguel Juarez along with all who knew and loved him and
27 extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and
28 community; and be it further
29 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
30 presented to the family of Miguel Juarez as an expression of
31 our deepest sympathy.
