| 1 | | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate Chuck Nelson on the | 4 | | occasion of his retirement as the Deputy Mayor for the City of | 5 | | Aurora; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Chuck Nelson has faithfully served the citizens | 7 | | of Aurora in a variety of positions, always seeking new ways to | 8 | | improve the quality of life for the 200,000 residents of the | 9 | | second-largest city in Illinois; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Chuck Nelson's ability to genuinely connect with | 11 | | others, listen with purpose and compassion, and seek | 12 | | problem-solving solutions has served him and the city well in | 13 | | every position that he has held and with every community board | 14 | | or organization that he has served; his uncanny ability to | 15 | | recall details and remember faces and names is unmatched and | 16 | | appreciated by staff and constituents alike; and | 17 | | WHEREAS, Chuck Nelson is a lifelong Auroran, a proud East | 18 | | Aurora High School Tomcat graduate (Class of 1976), and an | 19 | | avid White Sox and Bears fan; he attended Harper College and | 20 | | Waubonsee Community College while working for the Fox Metro | 21 | | Water Reclamation District; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Chuck Nelson began a distinguished career in | 2 | | public service in 1993 when he was first elected as Fourth Ward | 3 | | Alderman; he was always responsive to his constituents and | 4 | | cared about the entire city; he served three terms as | 5 | | alderman, which concluded in 2005; and | 6 | | WHEREAS, Chuck Nelson accepted a position as Assistant | 7 | | Chief of Staff for Mayor Tom Weisner in 2006; he held that | 8 | | position until 2015 when he became the Director of | 9 | | Neighborhood Standards for the city; and | 10 | | WHEREAS, In 2017, newly-elected Mayor Richard Irvin asked | 11 | | Chuck Nelson to serve as the City of Aurora's first ever Deputy | 12 | | Mayor, a position he held with distinction until his | 13 | | retirement in December 2020; and | 14 | | WHEREAS, Chuck Nelson was honored by the Aurora City | 15 | | Council at their committee of the whole meeting on December | 16 | | 15, 2020 for his dedication, class, and excellence; and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Chuck Nelson was awarded the Aurora University | 18 | | George Peters Award in 2005, one of many awards and | 19 | | recognitions he has received over the years; the Peters Award | 20 | | is presented to individuals who strengthen the bond between | 21 | | the university and its hometown and who understand that all of | 22 | | us have an obligation to serve the greater good; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Chuck Nelson also received the Marie Wilkinson | 2 | | Spirit Award for his service to the community; he has served | 3 | | with numerous organizations over the years, including the | 4 | | Presence Mercy Medical Foundation, Family Counseling Service, | 5 | | and Saint Peter Church, where he is still an active member; he | 6 | | also served as the city liaison for the Aurora Veterans | 7 | | Advisory Council after it was re-instated in 2012; he has | 8 | | worked tirelessly to support veterans in the Aurora community; | 9 | | and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Chuck Nelson and his wife Karen have been married | 11 | | for more than 40 years; they have two daughters, Katie (Aaron) | 12 | | and Megan (Joel), and five grandchildren, Olivia, Lucy, Henry, | 13 | | George, and Louis; therefore, be it
| 14 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 15 | | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 16 | | we congratulate Aurora Deputy Mayor Chuck Nelson on his | 17 | | retirement, and we thank him for his service and wish him the | 18 | | best in all his future endeavors; and be it further
| 19 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 20 | | presented to Chuck Nelson as a symbol of our respect and | 21 | | esteem.
