| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | 3 | | to learn of the death of Rev. Betty Anne Hornback of Pekin, who | 4 | | passed away on January 7, 2021; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Betty Hornback was born in Poughkeepsie, New York | 6 | | to William Amos Lovekin Parke and Marion Elizabeth (Nyborg) | 7 | | Parke on April 24, 1937; she married Junior Neal Scurlock in | 8 | | Pekin on April 1, 1956; she later married Richard Dean | 9 | | Hornback in Pekin on July 28, 1984; she graduated from | 10 | | Sangamon State University in 1993 with a Bachelor of Arts in | 11 | | English and earned her Master of Arts in Human Development | 12 | | Counseling from the University of Illinois at Springfield in | 13 | | 1997; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Betty Hornback worked for the Methodist Medical | 15 | | Center in Peoria and Neurological Associates in Peoria, and | 16 | | then as the office manager/secretary for Arcadia Presbyterian | 17 | | Church in Peoria; in 1986, she became aware of a licensed | 18 | | ministry preparation program to train to be licensed for | 19 | | ministry in the United Church of Christ; she was the first | 20 | | candidate to enter this program in the Western Association in | 21 | | the Illinois Conference and became licensed on May 3, 1988; | 22 | | she was ordained in the United Church of Christ on June 8, 2001 | 23 | | and served congregations in Beardstown, Galesburg, Pekin, |

| 1 | | Paxton, Kewanee, Champaign, Mazon, Marseilles, and | 2 | | Chillicothe; and
| 3 | | WHEREAS, In 1999, Betty Hornback was one of three laywomen | 4 | | honored at the United Church of Christ's General Synod in | 5 | | Providence, Rhode Island for outstanding contributions to | 6 | | women's leadership development; she was honored in 2016 with | 7 | | the Chalice Award, recognizing her leadership and countless | 8 | | contributions to the Illinois Conference of the United Church | 9 | | of Christ; she was a member of the Congregational United | 10 | | Church of Christ in Pekin; and | 11 | | WHEREAS, Betty Hornback's interests included genealogy, | 12 | | writing, and reading light mysteries; she loved her family and | 13 | | was passionate about attending family activities; she was a | 14 | | special grandmother to her grandkids, and three granddaughters | 15 | | were named after her, as well as one daughter; she loved | 16 | | traveling, especially to Meriden, Connecticut, where she lived | 17 | | as a young child; she also was a member of the Daughters of the | 18 | | American Revolution; and
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Betty Hornback was preceded in death by her | 20 | | husband, Richard; her parents; and her brother, Peter Alan; | 21 | | and
| 22 | | WHEREAS, Betty Hornback is survived by her daughters, |

Betty Anne Hornback and extend our sincere condolences to | 14 | | her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | 15 | | further
