| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Alvin Ralph "Al" Lee, who passed away on | 4 | | January 1, 2019; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Al Lee was born in Gary, Indiana to Robert E. and | 6 | | Emma Jenkins Lee on May 5, 1934; he graduated from Roosevelt | 7 | | High School in 1952 and received an athletic scholarship to | 8 | | Michigan State University, where he was a member of the 1953 | 9 | | National Collegiate Football
Champions, the 1953 and 1954 Big | 10 | | Ten Conference champions, and Rose Bowl Collegiate Football | 11 | | Champions; he was captain of special teams in the 1956 Rose | 12 | | Bowl; he was member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and | 13 | | graduated in 1956 with a degree in economics; he enlisted in | 14 | | the United States Army in 1957 and rose to
the rank of | 15 | | lieutenant; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Al Lee continued his education by participating in | 17 | | the Division of Technical Institute at Purdue University, the | 18 | | Executive
Management Program at Pennsylvania State University, | 19 | | the General Motors' Dealer Development
Program, and the Ford | 20 | | Motor Company Dealer Training Program; he also attended the | 21 | | Executive Program at the Graduate School of Business at the | 22 | | University of
Chicago and received his M.B.A. from The | 23 | | University of Chicago; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Al Lee worked at numerous automotive dealerships | 2 | | including, Bob Neal Pontiac-Toyota and Bonnie Brook Sales,
| 3 | | where he was the sole-owner, dealer, and president; he later | 4 | | operated Chatham Ridge Ford, Bear County Ford, Landmark Ford, | 5 | | Marina
Ford, and Steel City Ford; he served as Dealer Principal | 6 | | of Prestige Ford Sales and Service; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Al Lee was a member of the Vice President of the | 8 | | United
States' Committee on Youth Motivation and Chairman of | 9 | | The Executive Program at the University of
Chicago Graduate | 10 | | School of Business; he also served as treasurer for Water Tower | 11 | | Place
Associates with the Urban Investment and Development | 12 | | Company, on the alumni board for the Executive Program at the
| 13 | | University of Chicago, as advisor to the president at the | 14 | | University of Illinois, as a member of the Mortgage
Banking | 15 | | Board for the State of Illinois, and as a board member for the | 16 | | Rainbow/PUSH Coalition; and | 17 | | WHEREAS, Al Lee worked with Mayor Harold
Washington, Eugene | 18 | | Sawyer, and the Eighth Ward Regular Democratic Organization; he | 19 | | served as deputy comptroller of the Forest Preserve District of | 20 | | Cook County; after retiring, he spent his
days at the South | 21 | | Side YMCA; and
| 22 | | WHEREAS, Al Lee is survived by his wife, Bessie; his sons, |

Marc (Pamela) and David (Lisa); his grandchildren, | 2 | | Anthony, Aaron, Faith, and
Solomon; his great-grandchildren, | 3 | | Theodore, Vivian, and Augustus; his siblings, James
(Marsha), | 4 | | Shirley (James), Irma, Yvonne (Charles), Lawrence (Willa), and | 5 | | Horace; his nieces,
Niki D'Hana, Anna Charles, and Valarie; his | 6 | | nephews, Eric and Jasen; and numerous other
relatives and | 7 | | friends; therefore, be it
| 8 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | 9 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 10 | | Alvin Ralph "Al" Lee and extend our sincere condolences to his | 11 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 12 | | further
| 13 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 14 | | presented to the family of Alvin Lee as an expression of our | 15 | | deepest sympathy.
