1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives were saddened to learn of the death Alan
4 Lemon of Kankakee; and
5 WHEREAS, Mr. Lemon was born on June 18, 1928 in Ionia,
6 Michigan to Harvey and Lucille Lemon; he graduated from
7 Illinois State University with a B.S. in Education and an
8 M.S. in Educational Administration; he married Emma Lou
9 Opperman in 1949; and
10 WHEREAS, He served in the United States Army from
11 1954-1957 as a tactical officer and was discharged as a first
12 lieutenant; and
13 WHEREAS, He served in Grant Park as superintendent of
14 schools from 1963 to 1979, during which he also sat on the
15 planning committees to develop Kankakee Community College,
16 the Kankakee County Special Education Cooperative and the
17 Kankakee Area Career Center; he was a member of the American
18 Association of School Administrators where he served six
19 years on the board of directors; and
20 WHEREAS, Mr. Lemon served as Regional Superintendent of
21 Kankakee County Schools from 1979 to 1994; he also served two
22 years as president of the Illinois Regional Superintendent
23 Association; and
24 WHEREAS, He was a charter member of the Grant Park Lions
25 Club, serving as president twice; he was a lifelong member of
26 the Kankakee County Historical Society and member of the 20th
27 Century Club; and
28 WHEREAS, Mr. Lemon was the recipient of the "Harold
29 Award" for his outstanding work to further the Pledge for
30 Life program; in addition, the Kankakee County Administrators
31 Association established the Alan Lemon Award in his honor,

1 and Mr. and Mrs. Lemon received the Samaritan of the Year
2 award from Riverside Hospital in 1992; he retired as regional
3 superintendent in 1994 to take over as the executive director
4 of the Riverside Foundation, which is the position he held
5 until his death; and
6 WHEREAS, He served many roles as an educator,
7 administrator, and advocate for education; and
8 WHEREAS, His passing will be deeply felt by his family
9 and friends, especially his wife, Emma Lou; his son and
10 daughter-in-law, Steve and Connie; his grandson, Eric Lemon;
11 and his three step-grandchildren, Chris Gainey, Kara
12 Lindquist, and Nicki Lindquist; therefore, be it
13 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
14 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
15 we mourn the death of Alan Lemon along with all who knew and
16 loved him, and extend our sincere condolences to his family
17 and friends; and be it further
18 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19 presented to the family of Alan Lemon.
