| 1 | | SENATE RESOLUTION | 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | 3 | | to learn of the death of Chong Cha Barnes, who passed away on | 4 | | November 23, 2023; and | 5 | | WHEREAS, Chong Barnes was born in a small village in South | 6 | | Korea on July 3, 1950; she married James E. Barnes Sr. on May | 7 | | 24, 1971; she accompanied him on his military tours until they | 8 | | eventually settled in Illinois; she became a U.S. citizen in | 9 | | 2004; and | 10 | | WHEREAS, Chong Barnes was a faithful member of the Munster | 11 | | Korean Church for over 35 years; and | 12 | | WHEREAS, Chong Barnes was a strong mother and a sweet | 13 | | grandmother who loved her family; and | 14 | | WHEREAS, Chong Barnes was preceded in death by her husband | 15 | | of 34 years; her companion of 12 years, Tyree Miller Sr.; her | 16 | | son; her daughter; and her grandchild; and | 17 | | WHEREAS, Chong Barnes is survived by her children, Sharon | 18 | | Barnes, Shirley Rochelle, and James E. Barnes Jr.; her | 19 | | grandchildren, Quovadis, Jarvell, Lorenzo, Hasan, Jamesha, | 20 | | James III, and Hajji; and her special sisters/friends, Gina, |

| 1 | | Kim, Kim, and Micha; therefore, be it | 2 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | 3 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 4 | | Chong Cha Banres and extend our sincere condolences to her | 5 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | 6 | | further | 7 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 8 | | presented to the family of Chong Barnes as an expression of our | 9 | | deepest sympathy. |
