| 1 | | SENATE RESOLUTION | 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | 3 | | to learn of the death of Robert Arthur "Bob" Plaskas of Oswego, | 4 | | who passed away on August 28, 2023; and | 5 | | WHEREAS, Bob Plaskas was born to Joseph and Myrtle Plaskas | 6 | | in Aurora on July 3, 1942; he graduated from Oswego High School | 7 | | in 1960, where he earned 10 varsity letters in football, | 8 | | wrestling, and baseball; he earned a degree in education from | 9 | | Northwestern University in 1964, where he was a Big Ten | 10 | | Conference wrestling champion in the 123-pound weight class; | 11 | | he earned his master's degree from Eastern Michigan University | 12 | | in 1966; he married Margaret Kuney on July 6, 1968; and | 13 | | WHEREAS, Bob Plaskas started teaching at Holy Redeemer | 14 | | Junior High School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1965; he then | 15 | | joined West Aurora High School in Aurora, Illinois as a social | 16 | | studies teacher and an assistant wrestling coach in 1966; he | 17 | | worked as the head wrestling coach of the University of | 18 | | Chicago for a year before returning to West Aurora High | 19 | | School, where he served as head of the Social Studies | 20 | | Department and baseball coach for 13 years, leading the | 21 | | baseball team to four consecutive state tournament appearances | 22 | | from 1973 to 1976, two third place finishes in 1973 and 1975, | 23 | | and two fifth place finishes in 1974 and 1976; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Bob Plaskas returned to his alma mater, Oswego | 2 | | High School (OHS), where he served as athletic director and | 3 | | taught American history from 1979 to 1988; during his tenure | 4 | | as athletic director, he successfully obtained funding for | 5 | | stadium lights on the football field, revived the Oswego High | 6 | | School Booster Club, improved the school's weight training | 7 | | facility, and created an athletic training program; after | 8 | | stepping down as athletic director to allow more time for | 9 | | family, he continued to teach at OHS until his retirement in | 10 | | 1999; and | 11 | | WHEREAS, Bob Plaskas was a member of the Oswego Hall of | 12 | | Fame and the West Aurora Hall of Fame; he was named Illinois | 13 | | Baseball Coach of the Year in 1975; and | 14 | | WHEREAS, Bob Plaskas will be remembered as a devoted | 15 | | husband, father, grandfather, uncle, educator, and coach; and | 16 | | WHEREAS, Bob Plaskas was preceded in death by his parents | 17 | | and his brother, Joe Plaskas; and | 18 | | WHEREAS, Bob is survived by his wife of 55 years, | 19 | | Margaret; his sons, Aaron Plaskas and Rob Plaskas; his sister, | 20 | | Mary Ann (Joseph) Klis; his sister-in-law, Sue (Joe) Plaskas; | 21 | | his daughter-in-law, Beth; his granddaughters, McKenna and |

| 1 | | Delaney; his many nieces, nephews, and friends; and his dog, | 2 | | Waylon; therefore, be it | 3 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | 4 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 5 | | Robert Arthur "Bob" Plaskas and extend our sincere condolences | 6 | | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be | 7 | | it further | 8 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 9 | | presented to the family of Bob Plaskas as an expression of our | 10 | | deepest sympathy. |
