| 1 | | SENATE RESOLUTION
| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | 3 | | to learn of the death of Janet Kaye Miller of Williamsville, | 4 | | who passed away on April 5, 2023; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Janet Miller was born on September 1, 1944, and | 6 | | she grew up on a farm in Brown County; she attended Gem City | 7 | | Business College in Quincy; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Janet Miller then moved to Springfield and worked | 9 | | as a secretary for the State of Illinois; during this time, she | 10 | | met Lee Miller, and they married in 1964; they built a life | 11 | | together in Williamsville, where she worked at home, raised | 12 | | their two daughters, and participated in community activities, | 13 | | including belonging to the Beta Sigma Phi sorority, | 14 | | participating in Home Extension, and supporting bible school | 15 | | at the Williamsville United Methodist Church; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, As her children got older, Janet Miller reentered | 17 | | the workforce as a secretary at Horace Mann Insurance; she | 18 | | then returned to school, studying at Lincoln Land Community | 19 | | College (LLCC) before graduating from the University of | 20 | | Illinois; upon graduation, she returned to LLCC as an English | 21 | | teacher, where she worked until her retirement; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Janet Miller and her husband, Lee, enjoyed | 2 | | attending weekly bridge club with dear friends and | 3 | | entertaining regularly at home, which gave her the opportunity | 4 | | to make food and snacks that were 1970s favorites; her cooking | 5 | | was not solely reserved for special occasions, however, and | 6 | | she was known for her potato salad, chili, apple salad, | 7 | | dishpan cookies, "fall-apart" roast beef, and more; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Janet Miller was an avid seamstress, making many | 9 | | clothes for herself and her daughters, and she dearly loved | 10 | | tending her flower gardens; she enjoyed traveling and | 11 | | experienced many travel adventures, including going on trips | 12 | | all around the U.S., taking annual family fishing trips to | 13 | | Canada, completing an educational tour of England, celebrating | 14 | | her 60th birthday in Nova Scotia, and visiting France; above | 15 | | all, she loved being home with a cat on her lap, a dog by her | 16 | | side, and a book in her hand; and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Janet Miller was a loving wife to her husband, a | 18 | | nurturing mother to her daughters, an honorary mother to many, | 19 | | and a good friend; she will be remembered for being sweet, | 20 | | kindhearted, and compassionate; and
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Janet Miller was preceded in death by her | 22 | | parents, Wilma and Cordell Logsdon; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Janet Miller is survived by her husband, Lee; her | 2 | | daughters, Tera and Jill (longtime partner, Geoffrey); her | 3 | | brother, David (Judy); her sister-in-law, Judy (Glenn); her | 4 | | brother-in-law, Keith (Libby); her sister-in-law, Edith; her | 5 | | uncles, Carl and Orlando; her many cousins, nieces, and | 6 | | nephews; and a host of longtime friends; therefore, be it
| 7 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | 8 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 9 | | Janet Kaye Miller and extend our sincere condolences to her | 10 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | 11 | | further
| 12 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 13 | | presented to the family of Janet Miller as an expression of our | 14 | | deepest sympathy.
