1    AN ACT concerning safety.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Environmental Protection Act is amended by
5adding Section 13.10 as follows:
 
6    (415 ILCS 5/13.10 new)
7    Sec. 13.10. Microplastics. By March 1, 2024, the Agency
8shall make publicly available on its website the following
9information:
10        (1) a description of microplastics and their effects
11    on aquatic life and human health, including relevant
12    background information and sources of microplastics;
13        (2) any federal and State regulatory actions taken to
14    address microplastics and their effects on aquatic life
15    and human health;
16        (3) contact information for an employee of the Agency
17    who is available to provide information on microplastics
18    if a member of the public has questions or concerns; and
19        (4) additional resources, including, but not limited
20    to, links to webpages containing information on
21    microplastics on the United States Environmental
22    Protection Agency's website, the National Oceanic and
23    Atmospheric Administration's website, the National

1    Institutes of Health's website, the websites of other
2    State agencies and universities, and other scientifically
3    reputable websites that may contain additional relevant
4    information on microplastics.
5    The Agency shall update the website as additional
6information or data regarding microplastics in the State
7becomes available.
8    By October 1, 2024, the Agency shall submit a report to the
9General Assembly and the Governor that provides an overview of
10any Agency actions relating to microplastics, a comparative
11analysis of actions in other states regarding microplastics in
12the environment, and information on the latest guidance from
13the United States Environmental Protection Agency.
