| 1 | | HOUSE RESOLUTION | 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Lois Mae | 4 | | (Morrison) Steans of Bannockburn, who passed away on February | 5 | | 5, 2024; and | 6 | | WHEREAS, Lois Steans was born in Lake Forest on November | 7 | | 30, 1933; she married Harrison I. Steans in 1957, and they | 8 | | shared over 60 years together; and | 9 | | WHEREAS, Lois Steans and her husband adopted a class of | 10 | | rising sixth graders as part of the I Have A Dream program, and | 11 | | she spent many evenings working with the Dreamers and their | 12 | | families; and | 13 | | WHEREAS, Lois Steans was a longstanding and active member | 14 | | of the Ravinia Women's Board and took great pride in creating | 15 | | the Ravinia's Noteworthy cookbook, a process that involved | 16 | | testing, rating, and editing countless recipes; she created | 17 | | many wonderful memories for her family with elaborate picnics | 18 | | in the Ravinia park; and | 19 | | WHEREAS, Lois Steans was an avid gardener and was a member | 20 | | of various garden clubs and the Chicago Botanic Garden; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Lois Steans was a gifted pianist who enjoyed | 2 | | playing show tunes and classical music, with the work of | 3 | | Frédéric Chopin being a favorite; and | 4 | | WHEREAS, Lois Steans was well-known for her gracious | 5 | | hosting abilities, treasure hunts, creative stories, picture | 6 | | books, love of nature, and world-class flower-arranging; she | 7 | | was able to identify birds and flowers of all types; she loved | 8 | | swimming and the sun and had a unique ability for finding shark | 9 | | teeth on her beloved Manasota Key beach; and | 10 | | WHEREAS, Lois Steans will be remembered for her vivacious | 11 | | presence, creativity, humor, warmth, quick wit, and the joy | 12 | | she took in her grandchildren; and | 13 | | WHEREAS, Lois Steans is survived by her sister, Maxine | 14 | | (Morrison) Hunter; her daughters, Jennifer (Jim Kastenholz), | 15 | | Heather (Leo Smith), and Robin (Leonard Gail); her | 16 | | grandchildren, Myra, Sam, Abby, Jessica, Leah, Sydney, and | 17 | | Nick; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives; | 18 | | therefore, be it | 19 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 20 | | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 21 | | we mourn the passing of Lois Mae (Morrison) Steans and extend | 22 | | our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who |
