HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate George Markezich on the occasion of his retirement from the Department of Central Services of St. Clair County; and

WHEREAS, George Markezich was born to Anthony and Elva Markezich in East St. Louis on May 26, 1955; he married Anne Markezich on October 5, 1997; and

WHEREAS, George Markezich is the father of two sons, the late Justin, who passed in 2004, and Dustin, and his daughter-in-law, Lindsey; he is the grandfather of Gavin and Demi; and

WHEREAS, George Markezich began serving St. Clair County as a mechanic in 1984, and he was promoted to garage procurement and service manager in 2018; and

WHEREAS, During his tenure, George Markezich oversaw the maintenance of 151 vehicles and emergency equipment, drove 1.3 million miles a year, purchased county vehicles, handled the selling of old vehicles at auctions, dealt with insurance regarding wrecked vehicles, and ordered gas to refuel vehicles; and

WHEREAS, George Markezich has remained active in his community; he has been a member of the Caseyville Township Precinct Committee for 37 years, serving as chairman for 12 years; he has served as a voluntary fireman for Fairmont City for 12 years, where he holds the rank of lieutenant; he is a member of the Transit District Board, the Collinsville Recreation Club, and the Knights of Columbus of Collinsville; he has additionally given his time by cooking and baking for the St. Clair County Board and organizing parades for 12 years; and

WHEREAS, George Markezich and his wife, Anne, have further given back to their community through founding the Justin Markezich Memory Golf Tournament, an annual event that has raised funds to award high school students with college scholarships for the past 19 years; and

WHEREAS, George Markezich has been noted for always lending a helping hand to anyone in need; and

WHEREAS, In retirement, George Markezich has expressed interest in watching the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team and St. Louis City SC soccer team, maintaining his pristine yard, fishing, taking up golf again, and picking up his grandchildren from school daily; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate George Markezich on his retirement from the Department of Central Services of St. Clair County, thank him for his outstanding service to his community, and wish him success in his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to George Markezich as an expression of our esteem and respect.
