AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 5488

AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 5488 on page 2, line 2, by replacing "created." with "created, shall meet on a quarterly basis for 4 years after the effective date of this Act, and shall, by no later than June 30, 2028, submit to the General Assembly, in accordance with Section 3.1 of the General Assembly Organization Act, a report that contains the final recommendations developed under subsection (b)."; and

on page 2, by replacing lines 3 through 6 with the following:

"(b) The Legacy Tree Program Task Force shall establish recommendations for the creation of a statewide legacy tree designation program to promote the identification, awareness, commemoration, and preservation of significant trees in the State."; and

on page 2, line 9, by replacing "Coalition" with "Council"; and

on page 2, by replacing lines 21 through 23 with the following:

"(7) one representative of the University of Illinois Extension forestry program, appointed by the Governor;

(8) one representative of an association that represents Illinois arborists, appointed by the Governor;

(9) two representatives of the Department of Natural Resources, appointed by the Governor;"; and

on page 2, line 24, by replacing "(8)" with "(10)"; and

on page 2, line 26, by replacing "(9)" with "(11)"; and

on page 3, line 2, by replacing "(10)" with "(12)"; and

on page 3, line 5, by replacing "(11)" with "(13)"; and

on page 3, line 7, by replacing "(12)" with "(14)"; and

on page 3, line 9, by replacing "(13)" with "(15)"; and

on page 3, line 11, by replacing "(14)" with "(16)"; and

on page 3, line 14, by replacing "(15)" with "(17)"; and

on page 3, line 16, by replacing "(16)" with "(18)"; and

on page 3, line 25, after "standards", by inserting "that can be used on a variety of trees"; and

on page 4, by replacing lines 1 and 2 with the following:

"(2) criteria for which the historical and cultural significance of a tree could be measured;"; and

on page 4, by replacing lines 5 through 8 with the following:

"(4) exploring partnership opportunities with units of local government for oversight of the legacy tree program and participation in the program;

(5) creating a public awareness program, including digital media, a website, a legacy tree tool kit and educational materials to be made available by the Department of Natural Resources for use by units of local government;

(6) exploring funding sources for the maintenance of the statewide legacy tree program, including grant funding opportunities to facilitate participation in the program by units of local government;"; and

on page 4, line 9, by replacing "(6)" with "(7)"; and

on page 4, line 10, by replacing "(7)" with "(8)"; and

on page 4, line 11, by replacing "(8)" with "(9)"; and

on page 4, line 13, by replacing "(9)" with "(10)"; and

on page 4, line 15, by replacing "(10)" with "(11)".
