AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 5250

2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 5250, AS AMENDED,
3with reference to page and line numbers of House Amendment No.
41 as follows:
 
5on page 3, line 3, by replacing "provide the option" with
6"allow for automatic eligibility"; and
 
7on page 3, line 10, by replacing "provided with the option"
8with "automatically eligible"; and
 
9on page 3, line 14, by replacing "provided with the option"
10with "automatically eligible"; and
 
11on page 3, line 17, by replacing "provided with the option"
12with "automatically eligible"; and
 
13on page 5, line 4, after "(a-25)", by inserting "A school

1district's accelerated placement policy must include a process
2through which the parent or guardian of each student who meets
3State standards is provided notification in writing of the
4student's eligibility for enrollment in accelerated courses.
5This notification must provide details on the procedures for
6the parent or guardian to enroll or not enroll the student in
7accelerated courses, in writing, on forms the school district
8makes available. If no course selection is made by the parent
9or guardian in accordance with procedures set forth by the
10school district, the student shall be automatically enrolled
11in the next most rigorous level of coursework."; and
 
12on page 5, immediately below line 16, by inserting the
13following:
14    "(a-30) Nothing in this Section shall prohibit the
15implementation of policies that allow for automatic enrollment
16of students who meet standards on State assessments into the
17next most rigorous level of advanced coursework offered by a
18high school.".
