SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
225 ILCS 65/50-80 new

    Amends the Nurse Practice Act. Provides that a license under the Act shall be automatically granted to an individual who has graduated from an approved program of professional nursing education or an approved program of practical nursing education, as applicable to the license being granted; passed a criminal background check with the Illinois State Police and Federal Bureau of Investigation; and completed and passed an examination specific to State laws that regulate the nursing profession as an advanced practice registered nurse, licensed practical nurse, or registered nurse. Requires the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation to adopt rules.

1    AN ACT concerning regulation.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Nurse Practice Act is amended by adding
5Section 50-80 as follows:
 
6    (225 ILCS 65/50-80 new)
7    Sec. 50-80. Automatic nurse licensure program.
8    (a) Beginning January 1, 2025, the applicable license
9under this Act shall be automatically granted to an individual
10who has:
11        (1) graduated from an approved program of professional
12    nursing education or an approved program of practical
13    nursing education, as applicable to the license being
14    granted;
15        (2) passed a criminal background check with the
16    Illinois State Police and Federal Bureau of Investigation;
17    and
18        (3) completed and passed an examination specific to
19    State laws that regulate the nursing profession as an
20    advanced practice registered nurse, licensed practical
21    nurse, or registered nurse.
22    (b) The Department shall adopt rules to implement and
23administer this Section.
