AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 4179

2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 4179, AS AMENDED,
3with reference to page and line numbers of Senate Amendment
4No. 1, on page 7, by replacing lines 2 through 25 with the
5following:
6    "(a) The board of trustees of a district may fix, charge,
7and collect fees not exceeding the reasonable cost of the
8service for ambulance services rendered by the district
9against persons who are not residents of the district and
10against businesses and other entities that are not located
11within the district.
12    (b) A fee charged to an individual patient under
13subsection (a) shall be computed at a rate not to exceed $250
14per hour and not to exceed $70 per hour per ambulance worker
15responding to a call for assistance. An additional fee may be
16charged to reimburse the district for documented extraordinary
17expenses of materials used in rendering ambulance services up
18to the reasonable cost of the materials. No charge shall be

1made for services for which the total charge would be less than
2$50. The limitations outlined in this subsection do not apply
3to a third-party payer, and the third-party payer shall pay
4the charges set in subsection (a) and any additional fees for
5extraordinary expenses charged under this subsection.
6    As used in this subsection, "third-party payer" means an
7entity that provides an insurance, medical service, or health
8plan by contract or agreement, including an automobile
9liability insurance or no fault insurance carrier, and any
10other plan or program that is designed to provide compensation
11or coverage for expenses incurred by a beneficiary for health
12care services or products, including any government-funded or
13government-operated programs.".
