officer authorized to | 6 | | administer oaths in this State.
| 7 | | Except as otherwise provided in this Code, no petition | 8 | | sheet shall be circulated more than 90 days preceding the
last | 9 | | day provided in Section 7-12 for the filing of such petition.
| 10 | | The person circulating the petition, or the candidate on | 11 | | whose behalf the
petition is circulated, may strike any | 12 | | signature from the petition,
provided that:
| 13 | | (1) the person striking the signature shall initial | 14 | | the petition at
the place where the signature is struck; | 15 | | and
| 16 | | (2) the person striking the signature shall sign a | 17 | | certification
listing the page number and line number of | 18 | | each signature struck from
the petition. Such | 19 | | certification shall be filed as a part of the petition.
| 20 | | Such sheets before being filed shall be neatly fastened | 21 | | together in
book form, by placing the sheets in a pile and | 22 | | fastening them together
at one edge in a secure and suitable | 23 | | manner, and the sheets shall then
be numbered consecutively. | 24 | | The sheets shall not be fastened by pasting

candidate's political party in his or her | 8 | | congressional district.
| 9 | | (c) County office. Except as otherwise provided in this | 10 | | Code, if a candidate seeks to run for any countywide office,
| 11 | | including, but not limited to, county board chairperson or | 12 | | county board
member, elected on an at-large basis, in a county | 13 | | other than Cook County,
then the candidate's petition for | 14 | | nomination must contain at least the number
of signatures | 15 | | equal to 0.5% of the qualified electors of his or her party who
| 16 | | cast votes at the last preceding general election in his or her | 17 | | county. If a
candidate
seeks to run for county board member | 18 | | elected from a county board district, then
the candidate's | 19 | | petition for nomination must contain at least the number of
| 20 | | signatures equal to 0.5% of the qualified primary electors of | 21 | | his or her party
in the
county board district. In the first | 22 | | primary election following a redistricting
of county board | 23 | | districts or the initial establishment of county board
| 24 | | districts, a candidate's petition for nomination must contain | 25 | | at least the
number of signatures equal to 0.5% of the | 26 | | qualified electors of his or her
party
in the entire county who |

| 6 | | (1) If a candidate seeks to run for countywide office | 7 | | in Cook County,
then the candidate's petition for | 8 | | nomination must contain at least the number
of signatures | 9 | | equal to 0.5% of the qualified electors of his or her party | 10 | | who
cast votes at the last preceding general election in | 11 | | Cook County.
| 12 | | (2) If a candidate seeks to run for Cook County Board | 13 | | Commissioner,
then the candidate's petition for nomination | 14 | | must contain at least the number
of signatures equal to | 15 | | 0.5% of
the qualified primary electors of his or her party | 16 | | in his or her county board
district. In the first primary | 17 | | election following a redistricting of Cook
County Board of | 18 | | Commissioners districts, a candidate's petition for

| 25 | | (3) Except as otherwise provided in this Code, if a | 26 | | candidate seeks to run for Cook County Board of Review

| 1 | | Commissioner, which is elected from a district pursuant to | 2 | | subsection (c)
of Section 5-5 of the Property Tax Code, | 3 | | then the candidate's petition for
nomination must contain | 4 | | at least the number of signatures equal to 0.5% of
the | 5 | | total number of registered voters in his or her board of
| 6 | | review district in the last general election at which a | 7 | | commissioner was
regularly scheduled to be elected from | 8 | | that board of review district. In no
event shall the | 9 | | number of signatures required be greater than the | 10 | | requisite
number for a candidate who seeks countywide | 11 | | office in Cook County
under subsection (d)(1) of this | 12 | | Section. In the first primary election
following a | 13 | | redistricting of Cook County Board of Review districts, a
| 14 | | candidate's petition for nomination must contain at least | 15 | | 4,000 signatures
or at least the number of signatures | 16 | | required for a countywide candidate in
Cook County, | 17 | | whichever is less,
of the qualified electors of his or her | 18 | | party in the district.
| 19 | | (e) Municipal or township office. If a candidate seeks to | 20 | | run for municipal
or township office, then the candidate's | 21 | | petition for nomination must contain
at least the number of | 22 | | signatures equal to 0.5% of the qualified primary
electors of | 23 | | his or her party in the municipality or township. If a | 24 | | candidate
seeks to run for alderperson of a municipality, then | 25 | | the candidate's petition for
nomination must contain at least | 26 | | the number of signatures equal to 0.5% of the
qualified |

| 1 | | primary electors of his or her party of the ward. In the first
| 2 | | primary election following redistricting of wards or trustee
| 3 | | districts of a municipality or the initial establishment of | 4 | | wards or districts,
a candidate's petition for nomination must | 5 | | contain the number of signatures
equal to at least 0.5% of the | 6 | | total number of votes cast for the candidate of
that political | 7 | | party who received the highest number of votes in the entire
| 8 | | municipality at the last regular election at which an officer | 9 | | was regularly
scheduled to be elected from
the entire | 10 | | municipality, divided by the number of wards or districts. In | 11 | | no
event shall the number of signatures be less than 25.
| 12 | | (f) State central committeeperson. If a candidate seeks to | 13 | | run for State
central committeeperson, then the candidate's | 14 | | petition for nomination must
contain at least 100 signatures | 15 | | of the primary electors of his or her party of
his or
her | 16 | | congressional district.
| 17 | | (g) Sanitary district trustee. Except as otherwise | 18 | | provided in this Code, if a candidate seeks to run for trustee | 19 | | of a
sanitary district in which trustees are not elected from | 20 | | wards, then the
candidate's petition for nomination must | 21 | | contain at least the number of
signatures equal to 0.5% of the | 22 | | primary electors of his or her party from the
sanitary | 23 | | district. If a candidate seeks to run for trustee
of a sanitary | 24 | | district in which trustees are elected from wards, then the
| 25 | | candidate's petition for
nomination must contain at least the | 26 | | number of signatures equal to 0.5% of the
primary electors of |

| 1 | | his or her party in the ward of that sanitary district. In
the
| 2 | | first primary election following redistricting of sanitary | 3 | | districts elected
from wards, a candidate's petition for | 4 | | nomination must contain at least the
signatures of 150 | 5 | | qualified primary electors of his or her ward of that
sanitary | 6 | | district.
| 7 | | (h) Judicial office. Except as otherwise provided in this | 8 | | Code, if a candidate seeks to run for judicial office in a | 9 | | district, then the candidate's petition for nomination must | 10 | | contain the number of signatures equal to 0.4% of the number of | 11 | | votes cast in that district for the candidate for his or her | 12 | | political party for the office of Governor at the last general | 13 | | election at which a Governor was elected, but in no event less | 14 | | than 500 signatures. If a candidate seeks to run for judicial | 15 | | office in a
circuit or subcircuit, then the candidate's | 16 | | petition for nomination
must contain the number of signatures | 17 | | equal to 0.25% of the number of votes
cast for the judicial | 18 | | candidate of his or her political party who received the
| 19 | | highest number of votes
at the last general election at which a | 20 | | judicial
officer from the same circuit or subcircuit was | 21 | | regularly scheduled
to be elected, but in no event less than | 22 | | 1,000 signatures in circuits and subcircuits located in the | 23 | | First Judicial District or 500 signatures in every other | 24 | | Judicial District.
| 25 | | (i) Precinct, ward, and township committeeperson. Except | 26 | | as otherwise provided in this Code, if a candidate seeks to
run |

| 1 | | for precinct committeeperson, then the candidate's petition | 2 | | for nomination
must contain at least 10 signatures of the | 3 | | primary electors of his or her
party for the precinct. If a | 4 | | candidate seeks to run for ward committeeperson,
then the | 5 | | candidate's petition for nomination must contain no less than | 6 | | the
number of signatures equal to 10% of the primary electors | 7 | | of his or her party
of the ward, but no more than 16% of those | 8 | | same electors; provided that the
maximum number of signatures | 9 | | may be 50 more than the minimum number, whichever
is greater. | 10 | | If a candidate seeks to run for township committeeperson, then | 11 | | the
candidate's petition for nomination must contain no less | 12 | | than the number of
signatures equal to 5% of the primary | 13 | | electors of his or her party of the
township, but no more than | 14 | | 8% of those same electors;
provided that the maximum number of | 15 | | signatures may be 50 more than the
minimum number, whichever | 16 | | is greater.
| 17 | | (j) State's attorney or regional superintendent of schools | 18 | | for multiple
counties. If
a candidate seeks to run for State's | 19 | | attorney or regional Superintendent of
Schools who serves more | 20 | | than one county, then the candidate's petition for
nomination | 21 | | must contain at least the number of signatures equal to 0.5% of | 22 | | the
primary electors of his or her party in the territory | 23 | | comprising the counties.
| 24 | | (k) Any other office. If a candidate seeks any other | 25 | | office, then the
candidate's petition for nomination must | 26 | | contain at least the number of
signatures equal to 0.5% of the |

| 1 | | registered voters of the political subdivision,
district, or | 2 | | division for which the nomination is made or 25 signatures,
| 3 | | whichever is greater.
| 4 | | For purposes of this Section the number of primary | 5 | | electors shall be
determined by taking the total vote cast, in | 6 | | the applicable district, for the
candidate for that political | 7 | | party who received the highest number of votes,
statewide, at | 8 | | the last general election in the State at which electors for
| 9 | | President of the United States were elected. For political | 10 | | subdivisions, the
number of primary electors shall be | 11 | | determined by taking the total vote
cast for the candidate for | 12 | | that political party who received the highest number
of votes | 13 | | in the political subdivision at the last regular election at | 14 | | which an
officer was regularly scheduled to be elected from | 15 | | that subdivision. For wards
or districts of political | 16 | | subdivisions, the number of primary electors shall be
| 17 | | determined by taking the total vote cast for the candidate for | 18 | | that political
party who received the highest number of votes | 19 | | in the ward or district at the
last regular election at which | 20 | | an officer was regularly scheduled to be elected
from that | 21 | | ward or district.
| 22 | | A "qualified primary elector" of a party may not
sign | 23 | | petitions for or be a candidate in the primary of more than
one | 24 | | party.
| 25 | | The changes made to this Section by Public Act 93-574 are | 26 | | declarative of existing law, except for item (3) of subsection

| 2 | | Petitions of candidates for nomination for offices herein | 3 | | specified,
to be filed with the same officer, may contain the | 4 | | names of 2 or more
candidates of the same political party for | 5 | | the same or different
offices. In the case of the offices of | 6 | | Governor and Lieutenant Governor, a joint petition including | 7 | | one candidate for each of those offices must be filed.
