AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 3405

2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 3405 by replacing
3everything after the enacting clause with the following:
 
4    "Section 5. The Law Enforcement and Fire Fighting Medal of
5Honor Act is amended by changing Section 2001 as follows:
 
6    (20 ILCS 3985/2001)  (from Ch. 127, par. 3852-1)
7    Sec. 2001. There is created the Law Enforcement Medal of
8Honor Committee, referred to in this Article as the Committee.
9The Committee shall consist of the Director of the Illinois
10State Police, who shall serve as chair, the Superintendent of
11the Chicago Police Department, the Executive Director of the
12Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board, and the
13following persons appointed by the Governor: a sheriff, a
14chief of police from other than Chicago, a representative of a
15statewide law enforcement officer organization and a retired
16Illinois law enforcement officer. Of the appointed members,

1the sheriff and police chief shall each serve a 2-year term and
2the organization representative and retired officer shall each
3serve a one-year term. The Governor shall appoint initial
4members within 3 months of the effective date of this Act.
5Notwithstanding any provision in this Section to the contrary,
6the term of office of each Committee member is abolished on
7October 1, 2023. The terms of the Committee members appointed
8on or after the effective date of this amendatory Act of the
9103rd General Assembly shall be as follows: one of the members
10shall be appointed for a term of one year, one member shall be
11appointed for a term of 2 years, and 2 members shall be
12appointed for terms of 3 years. Thereafter, the Committee
13members shall hold office for 4 years. The Governor shall
14appoint these members within 3 months of the effective date of
15this amendatory Act of the 103rd General Assembly.
16    Members of the Committee shall serve without compensation
17but shall be reimbursed for actual expenses incurred in the
18performance of their duties from funds appropriated to the
19Office of the Governor for such purpose.The Illinois State
20Police shall provide administrative support to the Committee.
