AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 2274

2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 2274, AS AMENDED,
3by replacing everything after the enacting clause with the
4following:
 
5    "Section 5. The Illinois Speech-Language Pathology and
6Audiology Practice Act is amended by changing Section 8.5 as
7follows:
 
8    (225 ILCS 110/8.5)
9    (Section scheduled to be repealed on January 1, 2028)
10    Sec. 8.5. Qualifications for licenses as a speech-language
11pathology assistant. A person is qualified to be licensed as a
12speech-language pathology assistant if that person has applied
13in writing or electronically on forms prescribed by the
14Department, has paid the required fees, and meets both of the
15following criteria:
16        (1) Is of good moral character. In determining moral

1    character, the Department may take into consideration any
2    felony conviction or plea of guilty or nolo contendere of
3    the applicant, but such a conviction or plea shall not
4    operate automatically as a complete bar to licensure.
5        (2) Has received either (i) an associate degree from a
6    speech-language pathology assistant program that has been
7    approved by the Department and that meets the minimum
8    requirements set forth in Section 8.6, or (ii) a
9    bachelor's degree and has completed course work from an
10    accredited college or university that meets the minimum
11    requirements set forth in Section 8.6, or (iii) a
12    bachelor's degree in speech-language pathology or
13    communication sciences and disorders from a regionally or
14    nationally accredited institution approved by the
15    Department, and evidence of completion of at least 100
16    hours of documented field work supervised by a licensed
17    speech-language pathologist that is comparable to that
18    completed in a speech-language pathology assistant program
19    in this State.
