| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | 3 | | to learn of the death of Loretta Edwards Troyer of Oak Park, | 4 | | who passed away on July 14, 2021 at the age of 85; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Loretta Troyer was born the eldest of four | 6 | | siblings in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio on November 13, 1935 to | 7 | | Raymond Edwards, and Lee (Lina) Feindert; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Loretta Troyer excelled in school and graduated | 9 | | from Cuyahoga Falls High School in 1954 with a scholarship to | 10 | | study nursing at Pennsylvania College for Women (Chatham | 11 | | University) in Pittsburgh; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, In college, Loretta Troyer met her future | 13 | | husband, William G. "Bill" Troyer Jr., a third-year University | 14 | | of Pittsburgh medical student; they were married in 1959 in | 15 | | the Unitarian Church and began their life together in | 16 | | Pittsburgh as she started her career in nursing at Allegheny | 17 | | General Hospital; and | 18 | | WHEREAS, Loretta and Bill Troyer moved several times | 19 | | during the early years of their marriage due to the demands of | 20 | | their budding medical careers; together, they worked in | 21 | | Oklahoma City, Durham, North Carolina, and Delphi, Maryland, |

| 1 | | where her husband served at Walter Reed Army Medical Hospital; | 2 | | and | 3 | | WHEREAS, In Adelphi, Maryland, Loretta Troyer was accepted | 4 | | to Catholic University's master's in nursing program; after | 5 | | giving birth to her daughter, Judy, in 1969, she took a year | 6 | | off school, and she and her family moved to Madison, Wisconsin | 7 | | and then moved back to Washington D.C. to finish the last year | 8 | | of her master's program; and | 9 | | WHEREAS, Upon moving to Madison, Loretta Troyer worked at | 10 | | University of Wisconsin's Nursing and Rehabilitation teaching | 11 | | hospital; and | 12 | | WHEREAS, In the summer of 1974, Loretta Troyer and her | 13 | | family moved to Oak Park, which became their permanent home; | 14 | | she continued her medical career at the University of Illinois | 15 | | School of Nursing; once her children became older, she joined | 16 | | the Oak Park Health Department as an inspector and was known | 17 | | for holding restaurant owners to high public health standards; | 18 | | and | 19 | | WHEREAS, Loretta and Bill Troyer were deeply involved in | 20 | | charitable endeavors and dedicated themselves to mental health | 21 | | causes; together, they participated in multiple fundraisers | 22 | | for Thresholds, an organization working to transform the lives |

| 1 | | of those with mental illness and substance use disorders; and | 2 | | WHEREAS, Loretta Troyer was also an active participant | 3 | | with the University of Illinois academic exchange programs; | 4 | | she and her husband hosted faculty visiting from around the | 5 | | world and traveled to various destinations including Egypt, | 6 | | China, Hong Kong, and Tibet; later in life, she would enjoy | 7 | | visits with her grandchildren from California and River | 8 | | Forest; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Loretta Troyer was a dedicated mother, caregiver, | 10 | | friend, and traveler known for her steadfast work ethic and | 11 | | compassion for those in need; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Loretta Troyer was preceded in death by her | 13 | | parents and her brother, Howard Edwards; and | 14 | | WHEREAS, Loretta Troyer is survived by her sister, Alberta | 15 | | King; her brother, Robert Edwards; her children, William G. | 16 | | "Bill" Troyer III, Steve Troyer (Presley Stokes), and Judy | 17 | | (Richard) Deogracias; her grandchildren, Wade Troyer, Amelia | 18 | | Troyer, George Troyer, and Raymond and Lourdes Deogracias; and | 19 | | her great-granddaughter, Seraphina Loretta O'Leary, who | 20 | | arrived three days after her passing; therefore, be it

| 1 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 2 | | Loretta Edwards Troyer and extend our sincere condolences to | 3 | | her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | 4 | | further
| 5 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 6 | | presented to the family of Loretta Troyer as an expression of | 7 | | our deepest sympathy.
