| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | 3 | | to learn of the death of Norma Jean Glazebrook of Godfrey, who | 4 | | passed away on August 9, 2021; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Norma Glazebrook was born in Alton to Frank J. | 6 | | and Clara D. (Herman) Helwig on February 13, 1932; she | 7 | | graduated from Alton High School; she married Robert | 8 | | Glazebrook in Las Vegas, Nevada on February 16, 1973, and he | 9 | | preceded her in death on November 20, 1995; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Norma Glazebrook worked at The Telegraph | 11 | | newspaper in Alton for 21 years before retiring in 1973; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Norma Glazebrook was a national baton twirling | 13 | | champion and started the Piasa Indians Baton Twirling Drill | 14 | | Team in 1951, a group of baton-twirling, flag-bearing young | 15 | | girls that traveled the United States and performed shows at | 16 | | state fairs, parades, and national competitions; during her | 17 | | tenure, the team won a national VFW title at the New York State | 18 | | Fair in 1964 and a World Fair championship in 1965; she retired | 19 | | in 1972; and
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Norma Glazebrook was a member of the Evangelical | 21 | | United Church of Christ and the Illinois State Chapter of the |

| 1 | | P.E.O. Sisterhood; she served on the Village of Godfrey Park | 2 | | Board until her death; she joined Make-A-Wish Illinois in 1996 | 3 | | and helped fulfill nearly 300 wishes in her 25 years of | 4 | | service; she was always active with community service in both | 5 | | the Alton and Godfrey areas; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Norma Glazebrook was responsible for the creation | 7 | | of the Robert E. Glazebrook Community Park, consisting of over | 8 | | 90 acres of land she donated to the town of Godfrey in honor of | 9 | | her late husband; through her donation, Glazebrook Park has | 10 | | grown into one of the Midwest's premier parks and is a treasure | 11 | | to area residents; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Norma Glazebrook received a number of accolades | 13 | | during her lifetime, including the Studs Terkel Humanities | 14 | | Service Award from the Illinois Humanities Council, the Pride | 15 | | Inc. Outstanding Citizen Award in 2000 for her numerous acts | 16 | | of community service in the River Bend area, the Volunteer of | 17 | | the Year Award in 1999, 2000, and 2011, and the Gordon F. Moore | 18 | | Service Above Self Award by the Alton-Godfrey Rotary Club in | 19 | | 2013; she was a finalist in the selection of Channel 5's Five | 20 | | Noteworthy Volunteers in the Metro St. Louis area; she was | 21 | | named one of the Alton YMCA's Women of Distinction in 2011; she | 22 | | was honored as one of the marshals of the Alton Halloween | 23 | | Parade in 1961 and again for the parade's 100th anniversary in | 24 | | 2016; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Norma Glazebrook was known for her kind, | 2 | | generous, and spunky spirit; she will be remembered for her | 3 | | endless contributions to Alton and Godfrey and for making the | 4 | | River Bend region a better place to live, work, and raise a | 5 | | family; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Norma Glazebrook was preceded in death by her | 7 | | parents; her husband; and her stepson, Thomas Glazebrook; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Norma Glazebrook is survived by her stepchildren, | 9 | | Robert Earl Glazebrook Jr. (Donna) and Richard Brian | 10 | | Glazebrook (Jana); her grandchildren, Gail Glazebrook Robles | 11 | | (Tony), Robert Earl Glazebrook III (Katharine), and Heidi | 12 | | Glazebrook Hickman (Kyle); and her great-grandchildren, Robert | 13 | | Earl Glazebrook IV, Everett Hickman, Olive Hickman, Johnny | 14 | | Glazebrook, and Antonio Robles; therefore, be it
| 15 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | 16 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 17 | | Norma Jean Glazebrook and extend our sincere condolences to | 18 | | her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | 19 | | further
| 20 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 21 | | presented to the family of Norma Glazebrook as an expression |
