| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | 3 | | to learn of the death of Glenn L. Medhus of Moline, who passed | 4 | | away on July 19, 2021; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Glenn Medhus was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to | 6 | | Gerald and Bernice (Hansen) Medhus on June 19, 1928; his | 7 | | parents divorced when he was young, and he considered his | 8 | | stepfather, Frank Kramer, as his father; in 1950, he graduated | 9 | | magna cum laude with a bachelor's degree in accounting from | 10 | | the University of Iowa, where he also played baseball; he | 11 | | served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War; he married | 12 | | Mary Flidr on May 28, 1955, and she preceded him in death on | 13 | | August 28, 1989; he later married Kathleen Curry in Moline on | 14 | | December 14, 1999; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Glenn Medhus worked at Deere and Co. for 37 | 16 | | years, retiring in 1987 as Director of Corporate Planning, | 17 | | Farm Equipment and Consumer Products; he also served on the | 18 | | board of Firstar, where he was elected chairmen and oversaw | 19 | | its merger with US Bank; and | 20 | | WHEREAS, Glenn Medhus was a founding member and first | 21 | | trustee of Christ the King Church in Moline; he served in | 22 | | numerous leadership roles in the Quad-City community, |

| 1 | | including as director and trustee of Junior Achievement, | 2 | | president of the Moline Rotary Club, former chairman of the | 3 | | board of trustees for the Franciscan Hospital, long-time board | 4 | | member of the Unity Point Foundation, and director of the | 5 | | United Way and Boy Scouts; and | 6 | | WHEREAS, Glenn Medhus was a member of the University of | 7 | | Iowa Presidents Club and a 50-year member of the Tri City Deere | 8 | | Investment Club; he was on the Advisory Board for Western | 9 | | Illinois University and served on the Festival of Trees | 10 | | Steering Committee; and | 11 | | WHEREAS, Glenn Medhus loved people; he valued friendships, | 12 | | education, and life-long learning; he enjoyed traveling and | 13 | | was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, proudly following the | 14 | | football team to 15 bowl games during the 50 years he held | 15 | | season tickets; he loved his family and enthusiastically | 16 | | cheered for his grandchildren in their academic and athletic | 17 | | pursuits; he enjoyed golfing at Short Hill Country Club; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Glenn Medhus was preceded in death by his | 19 | | parents; his first wife, Mary; his infant son, James; his | 20 | | stepfather, Frank Kramer; his infant brother; his | 21 | | sister-in-law, Frances Flidr; his brother-in-law, John | 22 | | (Evelyn) Flidr; and his sister-in law, Margaret (Johnny) | 23 | | Welsh; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Glenn Medhus is survived by his wife, Kathleen; | 2 | | his children, Anne (Gregory) Medhus Westbrooks and Thomas | 3 | | Medhus; his grandsons, John Westbrooks and Dr. Michael | 4 | | Westbrooks; his brothers, Tom (Pam), Terry (Barbara), and Jan | 5 | | (Stephanee) Kramer; and numerous nieces and nephews; | 6 | | therefore, be it
| 7 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | 8 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 9 | | Glenn L. Medhus and extend our sincere condolences to his | 10 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 11 | | further
