| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | 3 | | to learn of the death of Linda A. Braun of Country Club Hills, | 4 | | who passed away on February 21, 2021 at the age of 73; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Linda Braun and her husband of 50 years, Fred, | 6 | | were residents of Country Club Hills for more than 45 years; | 7 | | they met and fell in love during a company bowling league and | 8 | | quickly formed a partnership on the drag strip, as Fred raced | 9 | | his car and she led his pit crew; their love of family, sports, | 10 | | and civic service was a road map for their lives; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, A mentor to many, Linda Braun often loudly | 12 | | praised those whom she unknowingly inspired to become great | 13 | | leaders and engaged community citizens through her example of | 14 | | volunteering to countless local organizations; she rose from | 15 | | assistant Brownie leader to a regional head of the Girl | 16 | | Scouts; she was the first to introduce and implement the Daisy | 17 | | Girl Scout program for the Chicago area; she became PTA | 18 | | President and ran the Cougars football cheerleading program | 19 | | before taking on a leadership role in the Hillcrest Booster | 20 | | Club; and
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Linda Braun's public service spanned all ages | 22 | | with a focus on seniors in recent years; the culmination of her |

| 1 | | community stewardship materialized when she created a | 2 | | community of support for seniors called the Country Club Hills | 3 | | OAK program in 2001; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, While Linda Braun began each professional | 5 | | challenge at an entry-level, she rose to leadership positions | 6 | | quickly; her career began as a switchboard operator at Joanna | 7 | | Western Mills where her father, husband, and many other family | 8 | | members worked; after becoming a mother, she sought part-time | 9 | | jobs to keep her kids involved in community activities; many | 10 | | remember her as being the school crossing guard and a | 11 | | lunchroom mom; she eventually combined her religious and | 12 | | community passions into several roles with St. Emeric, Country | 13 | | Club Hills, and Bremen Township; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Among her many roles at St. Emeric, Linda Braun | 15 | | served as parish secretary, parish office manager, Eucharistic | 16 | | minister, and as a religious education teacher; she taught | 17 | | herself accounting to manage the parish office and eventually | 18 | | run a budget as a program manager at OAK; along the way, she | 19 | | took minutes at hundreds of city council and commission | 20 | | meetings while always looking for ways to help; and
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Linda Braun was an invaluable and engaging | 22 | | leader, mentor, teacher, and role model to scores of family | 23 | | and friends; she was a devoted citizen who cared deeply for her |

| 1 | | family and friends and enhanced the life and quality of her | 2 | | community around her; and
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Linda Braun was preceded in death by her son and | 4 | | his wife, Fred and Hellen Braun; and | 5 | | WHEREAS, Linda Braun is survived by her husband, Fred J. | 6 | | Braun; her children, Jennifer (Michael) Denton, Lynn Braun, | 7 | | John Braun, Kathrynne (the late Glen) Skonicki, and Valerie | 8 | | (Neal Zokan) Braun-Zokan; her grandchildren, Sandra (Nick) | 9 | | Sturgeon, Christina Denton, Michael Denton, Ashley Denton, | 10 | | Cameron Braun, Cameree Braun, Angela Skonicki, Katy Skonicki, | 11 | | and David Skonicki; her great-grandchildren, Sonia and | 12 | | Charlotte Sturgeon; her sister, Rosemarie (the late Kasper) | 13 | | Norkus; her sister-in-law, Marian (the late John) Lukshas; and | 14 | | countless others who lovingly called her "Mrs. Braun"; | 15 | | therefore, be it
| 16 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | 17 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 18 | | Linda A. Braun and send our sincere condolences to her family, | 19 | | friends, and to all who knew and loved her; and be it further
| 20 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of the resolution be | 21 | | presented to the family of Linda A. Braun as an expression of | 22 | | our deepest sympathy.
