Amends the Unemployment Insurance Act. Provides that no employer shall be chargeable for any benefit charges or amounts due in lieu of contributions that result from the payment of benefits to any individual for any weeks of unemployment, which unemployment is directly or indirectly attributable to COVID-19, and only to the extent that the employer can show that the individual's unemployment for each such week was directly or indirectly attributable to COVID-19. Effective immediately.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,

3 | | represented in the General Assembly:

4 | | Section 5. The Unemployment Insurance Act is amended by |
5 | | adding Section 1502.5 as follows: |
6 | | (820 ILCS 405/1502.5 new) |
7 | | Sec. 1502.5. Benefit charges; COVID-19. Notwithstanding |
8 | | the provisions of Section 1502.1, no employer shall be |
9 | | chargeable for any benefit charges or amounts due in lieu of |
10 | | contributions that result from the payment of benefits to any |
11 | | individual for any weeks of unemployment, which unemployment |
12 | | is directly or indirectly attributable to COVID-19, and only |
13 | | to the extent that the employer can show that the individual's |
14 | | unemployment for each such week was directly or indirectly |
15 | | attributable to COVID-19.

16 | | Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon |
17 | | becoming law.
