| 1 | | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
| 3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate Edwardsville High School
| 4 | | and its student athletes, the Tigers, on an incredibly | 5 | | successful spring
2022 athletic season, with three sports | 6 | | ranking among the top
teams in the State; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, The Tigers varsity baseball team had an | 8 | | incredible season, recording the second-highest number of | 9 | | single-season wins in program
history and collectively scoring | 10 | | over 300 runs during the season while
allowing less than 100 | 11 | | runs to be scored against them; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, In June of 2022, the varsity baseball team won | 13 | | the 2022 state championship in a
4 to 3 victory during the | 14 | | Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Class 4A Boys Baseball | 15 | | State Final, ending the team's season with
an overall record | 16 | | of 36 wins and 4 losses and securing the fourth state | 17 | | championship in
program history; and | 18 | | WHEREAS, The Tigers varsity boys track & field team also | 19 | | had an extraordinary season, placing first overall at half of | 20 | | its meets and breaking program records in five events | 21 | | throughout the season; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, In May of 2022, the boys track & field team placed | 2 | | second overall at the IHSA
3A Boys State Track & Field | 3 | | Championships; the team qualified for
six events at the state | 4 | | meet, with athletes competing in the finals for the 1600 meter | 5 | | race,
the 3200 meter race, and the triple jump event; and | 6 | | WHEREAS, Boys track & field runner Ryan Watts took first | 7 | | place in both the 1600 and 3200
meter races in the state | 8 | | finals; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, The Tigers varsity softball team also had a | 10 | | spectacular 2022 season, recording 22 shutouts during their | 11 | | season and winning an incredible
33 out of 37 games; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, In June of 2022, the softball team placed third | 13 | | at the IHSA Class 4A
Girls Softball State Final Tournament; | 14 | | the team displayed great teamwork and dedication in the final | 15 | | game, managing to create an eventual game-winning rally in the | 16 | | fourth inning
to overcome the early lead generated by the | 17 | | opposing team; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, These victories for Edwardsville High School | 19 | | would not have been possible without
the knowledge, passion, | 20 | | and dedication of the coaches who mentored and trained
these | 21 | | athletes every day, including Head Baseball Coach Tim | 22 | | Funkhouser, Head Boys Track & Field Coach Chad Lakatos, Head |

| 1 | | Softball Coach Lori Blade, and numerous assistant coaches; | 2 | | Coach Funkhouser and Coach Blade have both dedicated over 20 | 3 | | years to coaching high school students and have led
| 4 | | Edwardsville High School teams to multiple state tournaments | 5 | | in that time; therefore, be it
| 6 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 7 | | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 8 | | we congratulate Edwardsville High School
and its student | 9 | | athletes, the Tigers, on an incredibly successful spring 2022 | 10 | | athletic season; and be it further
| 11 | | RESOLVED, That we congratulate Edwardsville High School's
| 12 | | coaches
and supporters on their success, and we thank them for | 13 | | their guidance and dedication to the student athletes; and be | 14 | | it further
| 15 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
| 16 | | presented to Edwardsville High School as an expression of our | 17 | | respect and
esteem.
